“In Cape Town on a Sat morning - looking for something to do!”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Had heard a lot about this market so was keen to see and experience it. It is located in a dodge area of Cape Town but due to it being s busy on a Saturday morning it is fine to visit. Only en for early in the morning till 14h00. If you are wanting to get fresh produce to take home and do not like crowds go early. If you are looking to enjoy a morning of tasting good food and enjoy a glass of sparkling wine or two you can go later. Be prepared to have to look out for seating and then grab it!

Lots of people around inside the market and outside. Seating is very casual - long benches and straw bales. One need to be prepared to fight the crowds to find a spot to sit but the food quality is worth it.

There are also a few great funky shops around that you can browse through.

“Food is simply a.m.a.z.i.n.g!”

The Saturday morning (0900 - 1400) Neighbourgood's Market at the Old Biscuit Mill is a MUST DO activity while in Cape Town!

There are countless stalls with everything from chocolate to omelettes to oysters to paella. You can quench your thirst with rooibos ice tea, wine, beer, or pretty much anything else you can think of. Really, something for everyone! I could keep going back for weeks and try something new each time. There's no entrance fee, but of course you pay for whatever food/drink you want.

The Old Biscuit Mill is an old brick warehouse that has been renovated with shops and restaurants. At first I was concerned about the area being a bit dodgy, but I've actually found it to be just fine. Although Saturdays at the market are busy, there is lots of parking on the nearby side streets. There are also lots of local people milling about the side streets, eager to direct you to a parking lot and charge you a small fee (e.g. R10) to look after your car.

“For a fun Saturday morning”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Went with friends to this open air market place, which was crowded with people when we arrived. A fun band was playing outside, and belly dancers performing. The food stalls were producing wonderful smells, which made choosing from all the wonderful foods and drinks that were on display, really difficult . Got a stuffed pita which was yummy, but had to stand and walk to eat it, as there was no seating by the time we got there. It was fun shopping with all the vendors there too. A must see for a Cape Town visit!

“Food Frenzy”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

The Old Biscuit Mill has a weekly food market on a Saturday morning from 9 to 1 - get htere early as it fills up and it is nicer to be seated than standing as you chomp on your rosti/ dim sum/ oysters....we had freshly squeezed juice, fine patisserie and good coffee as well as rostis with salmon and poached eggs and dim sum(fried alas, not steamed) We bought fresh asparagus and strawberries and if one had a limitless capacity we could have had pizza and oysters and espetada and so much more... pretty people, families, serene people... lovely.

“Spend Saturday Morning visiting this interesting market”
Reviewed October 7, 2012 via mobile

having some free time on a Saturday morning , one will really enjoy walking and visiting the different stalls at the Old Biscuit Mill market in Salt River , Cape Town. Great alternative if you are looking for something different to the normal shopping centre experience ( Waterfront , Canal Walk , Cavendish etc). Stalls offer organic and homemade goodies and good alternative experience if you have 2 - 3 hours. Visit early as at 11 am , very , very busy. Try to go at 8am. Whilst there , visit the Good Hope Butchery which is close by for a great Chicken Tikka for only R17.
