Safari Tour from Cape Town Including Lunch
Reviewed April 17, 2013

My friend and I booked a day trip at the Inverdorn Game Reserve and we really enjoyed it! After a 2.5 hour ride from cape town we arrived and were welcomed with a fresh made juice. After we finished it we got to meet our tour guide. Luckily we were the only ones and so we could really enjoy the safari. Another great fact was that we could see a lot of animals and that our guide gave us some really interesting information about those and what we liked the most was that Inverdorn also takes care of abused animals like elephants and lions. We could get really close to those and take some good shots. We definitely recommend the service and the reserve.

This game farm is very much a lesson in expectation management. It's not particularly expensive compared to the other game reserves and you get what you pay for. We actually stayed 2 nights which we now realise was 1 too many but it's how we've always done it in other game reserves (such as Sanbona - amazing and Samara - very good).

The people were friendly, we got to see the animals we wanted and it wasn't really that off-the-wall priced however, the food isn't great, the accommodation a little average and it is a little bit zoo-like. The lions were really in a caged off area which is a bit sad and they all get fed by man which ruins the experience a little.

On the plus side, the cheetah experience was amazing - we've never seen so many so close up and we were there having a laugh with family - it is what you make it I think.

Inverdoorn is a lovely game reserve about 3 hours out of Cape Town.
The chalets were lovely and the staff were very friendly.

Rent a car from Cape Town (medium or large), the drive is beautiful It takes about 3 hours. This might obviously fluctuate, which is normal.
You will see the Big 5 and these will be in enclosures. Inverdoorn runs rehabilitation programs for these animals, so you are supporting a very good cause. Other animals (antelopes, wildebeest, etc) are in much vaster areas. The rangers are very knowledgeable and the information they share is fascinating.

The level of service offered by the resort is a little inconsistent. They are trying too hard with the food, which is unnecessary (keep it simple!) and they can't get certain basic things right:
1) there are safes in the rooms but they don't have the keys for them
2) the gift shop opening times are inconsistent (which is a shame as it's an easy way to make money for them, considering the high markup on the items they sell)
3) the aperitif at the end of the first safari was a disappointment as they didn't bring enough glasses so most people didn't get a refreshment

Needless to say, it was a wonderful experience and a great way to see animals and some countryside. If you can't get to the big parks up north then this is a great option. And you are supporting some wonderful programs designed to help animals and their environment (and minimise the damage done by humans).

inverdoorn provided us with a great introduction to African wildlife in a game preserve setting. We had limited time and our two day trip provided us with ample opportunity to see all of the major game animals. The emphasis on cheetahs and their program to return them to their natural state only added to our experience.. Our guide was passionate about the animals and shared his knowledge with us. Our chalet was clean and the surroundings were beautiful . Our dinner was served under the stars and the fire pit at poolside added to the ambiance.

Inverdoorn Game Reserve met all my expectations, We arrived on the Valentines day, and for my surprise the attention and details of a nice romantic evening. The tour guide, went out of his way to rescue my Iphone which I dropped near a Cheetah. Thanks again.. Breath taking views, the service was amazing, the tour guide we had was educational.
