Amazing Hotel, very central and easy walking to markets, shops and restaurants. Staff are always attentive and willing to assist. Food is great- I ate breakfast at Mint and dinner at the Indian restaurant. The rooms are wonderful- the beds are incredibly comfortable and the pillows make you want to stay in bed the whole day! Gowns are fluffy too- major plus! Thanks to Willie for making our stay great!

South Africa is a great value. We were able to book a deluxe room through Travel Leaders for $232 including tax. This included an exceptional buffet breakfast and bottled water in the room. When was the last time you could order not a decent glass of wine but an exceptional glass for under $4 including tax at the hotel bar? The deluxe rooms were very roomy with a separate large shower and tub.

Room Tip: The upgrade to a deluxe room was worth it.

Having spent the better part of 20 years in the hospitality industry, i have had the opportunity to stay in some great hotel. Taj Cape Town i am happy to say ranks way up there among the best i have stayed in. From check in to check out I can not find much to fault. Service, which can make or break a vacation, was outstanding, from check in to check out. Lindy at front desk in particular was great. The rooms are well appointed with everything you need. If within your budget, the suites are very much worth the added costs. As a chef by profession, F&B services are important to me and here too, flawless. The in room dining service from Ashley, along with the meal itself was the best room service i have had anywhere in the world.Housekeeping is discreet and near prefect. Two restaurants, a bar and lounge make up the F&B offerings, with plenty of other good restaurants within walking distance for variation should you require. A good breakfast is served at Mint Restaurant on the ground floor. There is valet service if you have your own car or for your guests (as i had visitors who joined me for dinner). The Bombay Brazier Indian Restaurant was a gourmands delight and would hold its own against the best in the world. Remarkable in fact. this was my first stay in a Taj property and when I return to Cape Town in the near year God willing, will be my only option. The location at the top of St George's Mall is another added bonus as it means you are in easy reach of pretty much most things of interest in the city. Pool perhaps a bit small and crowded but then again, its not resort hotel so cant hold that against the property. Thanks Taj for a memorable (for all the right reasons) stay.

Room Tip: If you can, the suites are fantastic.

After a long flight it was the best place for us to rest our head. Friendly staff and just overall beautiful. The breakfast was delicious! We stayed here on our last night as well and because our flight didn't leave till midnight the next day we could stow our luggage and they gave us the opportunity to refresh before the flight at their wonderful spa on the second floor. We would love to return one day!

Room Tip: we stayed on the 15th floor with amazing views of table mountain!

I picked the Taj in the hope of receiving the service only found in the Indian / Asian top end hotels and I was not disappointed. From beginning to end, the service was unfailing from all staff but in particular Themba, the concierge. Your needs were anticipated but not overbearingly so.

The Taj uses an old bank building as the core, which provides for a grand lobby and public rooms. There are a number of compromises, however, that in my view reduce the rating.

First and most important, there is no garden, rooftop terrace or any pleasant outdoor seating. The few chairs in an unattractive side road are nothing to write home about. Second, the gym is small and not well equipped and the indoor pool is a longish lap pool that fits exactly one person doing laps. The small pool area feels dark and cavernous. Third, their contemporary restaurant the Mint is more reminiscent of your local Travel lodge eatery, nothing says Taj here and I avoided it.

Bedrooms are spacious and well appointed, including a desk and a beautiful bathroom, that, bizarrely, has a huge window to the main room so you get a good view of what's going on in the toilet. Better use the blinds here. Taj's own brand toiletries are some of the best in the business, room service, fast, efficient and of very good quality.

The hourly free shuttle service to the docks and Table Mountain is very convenient. However, the immediate vicinity of the company gardens and Long Street feel unsafe and have sadly been given over to beggars and crack dealers, positively seedy at night.

Food in the Indian restaurant (Bombay Brasserie) is excellent and the service very attentive but the breakfast needs improving: many hot food items, including crispy bacon, are kept hot under steam and turn into rubber quickly. Bread and bakery is very disappointing as you only get basic toast bread and some form of homemade sweetbread. A visit to the Bavarian Bakery at V&A
http://www.royalbavarianbakery.com/en/waterfront.php gives an idea of the high quality bakeries in Capetown.

Overall, an excellent hotel if you need to stay in the centre but as a tourist I'd recommend Camps Bay as the beaches, mountain views and safety issues make this area so much more attractive.

We arrived at the Taj Cape Town on 27 April 2014 and we depart this evening 2 May 2014. My family and I have travelled extensively around the world and we can say with great confidence that the Taj Cape Town equals if not exceeds every Hotel, in luxury, scenery and guest satisfaction. From the moment that we arrived in Cape Town Airport our transfer to the Hotel was waiting for us and the luxury experience began. The driver was friendly and personable and instantly made us feel at ease and welcome. Upon arrival at the hotel it was clear that the driver was not alone in his attitude and that the entire staff were welcoming and helpful to the extreme! Following a conducted tour of the hotel and after a slight confusion in which room we had (which was rectified very quickly and efficiently) we stepped into the Hastens Suite 2 bed room on the 14th floor. The room is exquisite and we would recommend it to anyone who requires more than one bedroom. The view of Table Mountain and the surrounding city is unobstructed and to our eyes unparalleled. (see the picture I have attached) For the entirety of our stay we have received nothing but excellent service from every member of staff that we have encountered, with nearly every staff member remembering our name and preferences whether it be our breakfast coffee or our evening drink. The Concierge and Club staff were excellent in recommending attractions, restaurants and organising tickets/ reservations for dinner. The complimentary car service was excellent and once again the driver each day was talkative and pleasant, adding to the very personal and comforting experience. Every query and concern has been dealt with in a professional and timely manner, from the Club staff sorting our room at the start of our stay to the Duty Manager arranging a late check for us this evening. We cannot express the excellent standard of service provided and would recommend this hotel to anyone who visits Cape Town and wants an exquisite experience!

Room Tip: The Mountain View Rooms are incredible - a postcard view from your bed!!!!
