After cold contact from a well-spoken and enticing sales rep for Hotel, I decided to test Hotel with one-night weekend stay. On arrival was most surprised to find no record of our booking, which for a 5 Star establishment was unacceptable. However the diligent duty manager not only sorted this delay out as effortlessly as possible, but for inconvience upgraded our room to 7th floor Table Mountain facing, with a panoramic views strecthing over the Cathedral, Company Gardens and towards Kloof nek and the Lion, in short spectacular !! The attention to detail in room and bathroom simply immaculate, well thought, tasteful. Waking to rising sun chasing long shadows off Table Mountain's towering front face, teh silence broken only the natterings of Egyptian geese and foraging Guinea fowl in Company Gardens below. If you closed your eyes one could easily imagine this was no different from yester Century, just probably not all that 5 star then. Breakfast down at Mint, surrounded by the very oldest and newest of Cape Town architecture in St Georges Mall was sumptuous, which was rounded off with a stroll into Company Gardens, which I have to compliment the City of Cape Town on upgrading, what a gem of a 'back in time' experience, the Taj is indeed well worth tasting.

Room Tip: 7th Floor and above, Mountain Facing, superb

We spent almost a week at the Taj. I could have moved in and spent the rest of my life there. The staff was wonderful The reception desk people were friendly and helpful. I stopped a couple of times just to talk with them, they were so nice. The concierge desk people were so helpful and friendly. The door attendants, bell people, etc. were just as helpful and warm. Breakfast at mint was a delight. Omelets were the best we had on the whole trip, with 4 other hotels. I do miss American style crisp bacon when I'm abroad, but their sausages, etc. made up for it.
Rooms are spacious, clean and well maintained. Our first room was one of the biggest, finest rooms I have ever been in. Unfortunately, some idiot was making loud noises at 6AM (probably exercising with weights) 2 nights in a row. The hotel could not find the culprit, so they graciously upgraded us to a room with a much better view, although it was a wee bit smaller. They could not have been nicer about it.
The hotel is near the Company Gardens, where there are museums, exhibits, etc. We visited the South African holocaust museum and the Slave Lodge, both of which are very educational, if a quite a bit depressing. the museum is in the Gardens while the Lodge is across the street from the hotel.
Both restaurants in the hotel are excellent - Mint, where breakfast is also served, and the Bombay Brasserie, which is one of the best Indian restaurants I have had the pleasure of visiting.
Don't let people try to talk you into staying elsewhere. If you like comfort, friendliness, and a very helpful staff, go to the Taj.

Room Tip: Get a front room on Wale for a view. Ask for a lower large room on the side next to St. Georges Ma...

The Doorman Gavins was the best part of Capetown. He was more than willing to show me and my family where to exchange money for the best rate. he walked us in and introduced all of us. Gavins also did a great job of showing us where to go and how to get there. was always more that wiliing to go the extra distance to make sure we enjoyed our time in Capetown. this review is for Gavins!!!
Thank You from my Family!!!

The hotel and staff are world class. They upgraded our room to a suite for some reason that I was thrilled about. Our room was stunningly beautiful and looked over at the old church across the street. Breakfast came with the room in a beautiful restaurant off the main lobby. Don't miss it! It was so delicious and I was not hungry because this was a trip that I ate too much but I don't regret having the amazing breakfast.

I will say that you should not walk around Cape Town after 7 or 8 at night. We just walked from the hotel a few blocks to a restaurant but it was too late to be out walking by ourselves and we did have an incident that could have been avoided.

We recently returned from 6 weeks in Africa, and Cape Town was our last port of call. It was a GREAT place to finish our trip. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and we were thrilled to find we had been upgraded to a suite on our arrival. A magnificent room with plenty of space, and views of the city. It is an excellent location, right near a Hop On Hop Off bus stop, which basically can get you to anywhere, including Table Mountain, the beaches and the waterfront. The food at The Taj was great ... Breakfast was amazing! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Taj Cape Town. It has a lot to offer, and basically, we couldn't fault it.

Great location, beautiful room, excellent breakfast every day. This was a memorable stay made all the better by Faith's welcoming smile. The spa treatments were world class and the staff made us feel really at home. There was a mix up with the booking but the manager put it right in a professional and friendly manner. I really recommend this lovely hotel and cannot wait to return to Cape Town!

Room Tip: The heritage rooms are lovely and we overlooked the cathedral and awoke to the sun on table Mountain...
