“Good Budget Hotel”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights on a city break. The location is good for the city centre with a Steers and KFC directly over the road, and Long Street just a minutes wallk away. However as tourists we felt that the city centre wasn't really the place to be and we would have much preferred to be at the V&A Waterfront.

The undercover drop off point was a nice first impression and the door staff were very friendly and helpful. The lobby was clean and modern and the rooms were of a good size and standard. We stayed bed and breakfast, and the dining hall was big and clean, and the choices were good with pastries, hot food, egg station, cereal and fruit bar and bread and toaster.

The taxi fare from the Strand to Table Mountain cable car was around 60Rand and to the Waterfront was 50Rand.

Overall if you want to be in the City Centre, I would recommend this hotel especially for the value for money.

The Strand Towers is a large, busy hotel, ideally situated for the City. You are in the heart of the City and can walk around quite easily from the hotel. V&A waterfront was about 15-20 minutes walk away.

The rooms were clean and comfortable. Rooms varied in size, some were larger than others but had all you needed – shower and separate bath, tea/coffee making facilities, safe. Some rooms have table mountain views, others had a lot of street noise and tower block views.

Staff were efficient and friendly, given the size of the hotel. Breakfast was buffet style with a range of choice to suit most needs. At times it was very busy with quite long queues for breakfast & the lift. There is a small pool by the restaurant – beware if you swim in it, you could splash a few unsuspecting people sitting on loungers, if you do much more than a gentle swim!

Room Tip: As for a quiet room if you're a light sleeper. Loop Street gets very noisy. Try to get the end...

We stayed for four nights in March. The hotel is ideal for access to city centre attractions and round the corner from Long St with all of its bars and restaurants. Staff were very friendly and helpful and readily resolved our parking issues on one of the nights of our stay. The rooms are cleaned daily and are comfortable and clean. The gym is basic to say the least. I reported the treadmill as dangerous as the belt on it was slipping. I don't know if this has been resolved. Room service menu was reasonable but the tray charge is a bit of a sting in the tail. Breakfast offered a good choice. Be aware that it being a city centre hotel, there can be street noise such as sirens. The hotel caters to large groups of sports teams but we had no problems with noise from them.

We stayed here for 4 nights.
The service was good, especially in the restaurant. One of the lovely ladies serving at the breakfast buffet was a goldmine of info on things to do locally. She was also willing to whip up some eggs any way you'd care to have them. In general the food was very good, I regret not asking what the soup was on the first night because it was the most delicious soup I have ever had.

The room was clean, spacious and had modern decor. The bed was lovely and large and the bathroom well appointed. The only negative was that the room was a bit cold and the heating did not work. Reception promised us an electrical heater but it never arrived. There is off street parking, which is an extra charge, but the spaces are very small. We had a rental hatchback and I would not attempt it in anything larger unless you are used to maneuvering in very tight spaces.

The rooms were a little noisy due to a loud family screeching next door and in the corridor, but after we complained the hotel staff did get them to quiet down. Our room faced away from the street and we didn't have any problem with street noise.
