“Attitude”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Great food in a very obscure venue teamed up with attitude from the owner waitress left us with a sour taste in our mouth. How sad that she can be so rude to some diners whilst fawning over her favourites. Cape Town is too small for a bad attitude. Think the new venue should be amazing. Good luck

“Best Bistro”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

back to Cape Town after 3 weeks in Europe and straight to Bizerca to enjoy continuity of the superb cuisine and service we enjoyed there. our table of 6 last Friday was possibly our best yet. Chef Laurent is a genius and can be relied upon for the best fresh produce expertly prepared. Raphael's refreshing charm and authentic representation of the chefs culinary expertise is a huge help when making decisions. A rare privilege in South Africa to have the menu presented by someone who not only understands what has gone into the dish but one really enjoys food. Bizerca is unique in that regard - too many restaurants here send an order taker who knows nothing about the food that a chef has put together with such care. well done Bizerca - top marks - every experience a pleasure

“Excellent inner city choice”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

The food is consistently good. The menu changes regularly and, as others have said, leaves you torn between temptations! The service is expert and efficient, the vibe friendly and casual. The clean and hard surfaces can sometimes make the place a little noisy, but that's a small price to pay for the fine dining.

“Expectations failed to deliver”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

I've read many reviews in the past on how fantastac Bizerca is, how great the food etc, so needless to see I was very excited to finally go. I cannot tell you how deeply disappointed I was with quite a number of things. Firstly, the service was really mediocre, the waitress didn't seem to know what she was doing and we repeatedly asked quite a few servers for a wine list which we just never received. Although the chalk board idea is a nice one, it just doesn't seem to be efficient enough as you have to basically wait your turn to see it.
The very poncy French maitre d' flounced around and when our turn came to have the menu read out to us, that's exactly what he did, no additional detail. Just a quick ramble on the list of ingredients.
The appetisers where by far the best part of the meal. The ingredients where, as promised, seasonal and fresh and very delicious, although I did feel it lacked a bit of imagination. But as bistro food is meant to be simple and uncomplicated, that could be forgiven. The white asparagus and scallop dish was exceptionally tasty as was the veal tongue. The mains where nice, the beef cheeks being rich and tasty. Served on pasta though it was rather heavy and we were left wanting something fresh and green to lighten it up slightly. The kudu fillet was rather bland, but cooked exactly the way I like it, practically raw. I was very happy with that as in most restaurants they always over cook it, even though I ask for it blue.
Desert was utterly disappointing. I really don't understand why it is necessary to put a creme brulee, berry sorbet and chocolate fondant on the same plate. And then neither one of these classic desert items was prepared very well. I have my doubts as to whether the creme brulee was actually baked as it resembled something that would rather have been set in the fridge. No egginess detected! The sorbet was meant to be raspberry, but when it arrived it was distinctly strawberry. When I asked the maitre d' he actually disputed this. On checking with the chef he did confirm that it was strawberry indeed. The chocolate fondant was the best thing on the plate and I would have been perfectly happy with only that to end off my meal.
All in all the experience was ok, but not really what I had expected after all the rave reviews.

“celebration supper”

I enjoyed a good dinner, great attention to detail and friendly staff. There were only limited number of portions of the specials so maybe go early?
