Gold restaurant is spectacular. The restaurant offers a set menu of dishes that come from all over Africa. All of the staff are also from all over Africa and incredibly friendly, each having their own interesting story to tell. Each and every delicacy that comes out of the kitchen is a delight to the senses. There was not one dish which could be faulted. The first 5 or 6 dishes are tapas styles, and there is one piece per person at the table. The food then switches to larger style share dishes and is then followed by dessert (which is sprinkled in gold dust). The amount of food you get is incredible and well worth the price. But it's not only the food that is spectacular, with the set menu there is also set entertainment. When we were there three acts, the first was traditional african women dancing. I was lucky enough to be pulled up to dance which while being slightly embarrassing was a great experience! The second was a response by the men in fast paced tribal dancing and the final is the restaurants very own African queen you sprinkles you with real gold dust! There are also large walking african wooden puppets with staff inside which come to take pictures and interact with the diners. It was a wonderful night, one that my partner and I will never forget!

Let's start from the end. It IS a tourist restaurant. But as is, it is of the finest these kind of restaurants can aspire to be. Apart from the food, the shows, the dances, the ambience - they were all top notch. The musicians, the dancers, the décor, the design of the restaurant and the impeccable service all fused together to create a wonderful evening, and I am sure to come back again with my groups.

The wine list was ample, and our choices of wines were good and rewarding. The food was rich in flavor, and made professionally to good taste. Not haute-couture gourmet restaurant, but a cut well above all other places we have been to in the Waterfront and in the City.

The service, as mentioned was amazing, and we left the place smiling, and will surely be back!

It IS a MUST to combine the touristic, hi-end and local restaurants, as we have been doing the past week in Cape Town. Each has its ups and downs, and one is not at the expense of the other. This one was at the top of the former, as Bo Kaap Kumbuis was for the latter.

highly recommended!

We loved the set menu as it gives you a chance to try many dishes that you probably wouldn't order otherwise. Go hungry because there is way too much food. Location is a little hard to find so definitely take a taxi if you are not sure. The staff and entertainment was a nice touch. We also brought a bottle of wine and paid a very small corkage fee.

This is a real touristy thing to do. African music, food and dancing. It was the last night of our wonderful tour and the restaurant was a perfect place to end on a high note!
