I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Rose on Rouge for one week. It is one of the very best small hotels I have ever stayed in. The rooms are huge and interesting, the owners are amazingly friendly and helpful, the breakfast is delicious, and the location is excellent. I highly recommend it for anyone lucky enough to travel to Cape Town.

We, 2 families of 8, took 4 rooms in August. The extraordinary room space shown in the website was not only real, but was tastefully and homely furnished by its super-friendly and efficient hosts, Ursular and Michel, and all at a very reasonable price. The breakfast menu offered good variety, and we could see 2 cooks refinedly prepared them in a small lovely kitchen painted in maroon, part of the bold color scheme used in the hotel, in great harmony to the Bo Kaap landmark rowhouses across the street. We parked our car free of charge right in front, but you don't really need one to move around the few major flea markets and museums in the Bo Kaap area. What can you expect more?

From the moment our (large!) group arrived, we were made to feel special by Ursula and Michel. They totally have the satisfaction of their guests first and foremost. This is a very unique hotel loaded with personality and special touches. The rooms were amazing and fully equipped with extras, and each one is different, yet all enfolded in the Rouge theme. Ursula and Michel were available and willing to help at all hours for the diverse needs of each guest- from suggesting places to go and things to do, to rescheduling events for us which had been cancelled due to weather. The location was excellent and close to buses. I would recommend Rouge on Rose to anyone. The breakfasts were delicious and made to order for us- and the staff was very polite and accommodating.

Room Tip: Beware- our room (203?) did not have a door on the bathroom- it was all part of the bedroom, so fortunately I was rooming with a good friend (I guess we became even better friends after that experience!) or it would have been very awkward. Most other rooms do have bathroom doors.

Very nicely furnished, large rooms, great breakfast, extremely helpful and friendly owners, and great location (the neighborhood itself is very interesting and picturesque, and it is conveniently located to many places one will want to visit on a trip to Cape Town). Overall, staying there contributed significantly to having a very pleasant experience during my time in Cape Town.

Room Tip: I saw several rooms as my friends stayed in the same hotel, and all of them looked great.

Every moment was a treat. The room was huge and heavenly it lacked for nothing. Michel and Ursula were incredibly helpful with recommendations, maps, and little tips that made our stay special. Breakfast was extraordinary, the breakfast room was a happy place to start our day and the food choices covered the gamut and hit the mark. The bowl of fruit and yogurt was so well done on day one that I ordered it every morning although there were many other enticing options.

Parking was no issue. It was close enough to walk to some restaurants and shopping. The streetlife was a bit colorful but we didn't have any issues.
