Beautiful place to be. Quiet but central location. Waterfront reachable within 15 minutes walk. All rooms are large and have a personalized interior. Home and garden with plenty of lovingly selected decoration. Philipp, the owner, is very helpful and has many suggestions for tours and going out. We spent 4 nights there and felt at home. Highly recommended.

Recently stayed at the Romney for our last two nights in Cape Town in September (2 couples total). We were greeted by the owner Phillip's adorable dachshunds and Phillip himself, who was very friendly. The B&B is gorgeously and tastefully decorated with Phillip's eclectic style. He is quite the collector and the Romney is filled with interesting pieces from the local area and his travels. The patio is lovely and relaxing. We didn't go in the pool due to the cool weather but it looked clean and well maintained. The living room and dining area is open and in the mornings the staff opened the patio doors to allow a nice breeze in. There isn't much of a view as it's at the end of a cul-de-sac but the patio is very pretty.

The rooms are very spacious and the beds were very comfy. The rooms and bathrooms are extremely clean, with each space uniquely designed. Extra blankets and space heaters were also provided as the evenings were rather chilly.

The breakfasts were simple and filling- yogurt with granola, fruit, coffee, and juices as well as hot plates with eggs, bacon, and tomatoes. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

The location is on a quiet street in the center of the Green Point area. We did not walk to the water so I don't know how long it would take, but you could slightly see the water from the patio and it was a short cab ride to the V&A. Phillip arranged a taxi to take us to/from the airport, which was very convenient for us.

All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay at the Romney and would definitely recommend this to our friends. Phillip and staff did a wonderful job making us feel welcome. It was a great place to spend our last few evenings in wonderful Cape Town.

I've stayed at Romney Lodge a number of times, each one especially memorable for the thoughtfulness of its raconteur/owner, Phillip King; its perfect location in the center of Green Point, within an easy (and safe) walk of all the great shops and restaurants. The rooms are all beautifully done up in African Colonial style, luxury bedding, WiFi, and an awesome pool terrace and bar for sitting back and listening to Phillip, whose roots go deep in Cape history, and whose helpfulness and quips alone are reason enough to book in here... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Room Tip: Love the garden cottage....

Me and four other students stayed at the lodge for four days, we were greeted with a smile and immediately felt at home.
Not only is the staff friendly and welcoming, but Philip is a wonderful host.

I had a great time staying there and would advise anyone to go and stay there. It is an amazing place and it is just great to see such dedicated and wonderful people.

Was there 26-29April 2012 with my friends we were 12 in total. We had so much fun. Phillip is a great, friendly host. His staff-amazing, we loved the meals. I would recommend it to other friends, word of advise tho; the lady who preps the meals should not preach/judge young people n their activities. People come there to have fun n unwind nd don need 'lectures on our bad habits'.

It is a 20+ minute walk to the VA Waterfront and about 10 minute walk to the edge of Sea Point commercial and ocean front promenade area. To get to the beach area of Sea Point is also about 20+ minute walk. Granted I am not an unusual fast or slow walker, so believe it is a realistic time frame for the average tourist. Was warned against using the mini van (semi public bus) transportation, but found it quick, convenient and cheap. Taxi service is relatively affordable as well. Property of Romney is relatively clean and breakfast simple and filling. Choice of eggs, toast, cereal, plain yogurt, juice, milk, tea or coffee. With the eggs you receive a side of bacon, tomatoes and/or mushrooms. Also have freshly diced & mixed fruit bowl to enjoy. Staff friendly and helpful. WiFi is free and relatively uninterrupted. TV not much to see. Pool unheated, but pretty. Probably relaxing in the mid summer's heat. We traveled in April. No mini fridge or microwave in room. Stored a small take home in hotel's fridge overnight to eat the next day. Was allowed to use hotel's phone as I had none on this trip. Bleed me dry (cellphone) is very expensive here. My cellphone charged almost $2/min while here. Friendly, clean, but not as conveniently located as I would have preferred. On quiet no through street.

Room Tip: No real view from any of these rooms.

We had a wonderful stay here in Christmas 2011. Very nice guesthouse, friendly host - not to forget Mama Eunice and Simon who took good care of us. Take a look at my pictures here:
