Amazing food. Excellent service. Comfortable surroundings. Warm ambiance. Great wines. What more do I need to say?!?!?! This really is a gem.
I had booked a table for four (by e-mail) at 7pm on New Years Eve. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed (by name, which doesn't happen too often on your first visit) by the Maitre D' (who seems to be the Owner, too) and shown to our 10/10 table; a prime spot, right by the window. Our Waiter then came over and expertly explained the dining concept and format. We ordered a bottle of competitively-priced Cap Classique whilst we perused the menu - extensive but not overbearing. Ooooh! I could have chosen so much; it's all there, vegetarian, poultry, meat, game all again competitively priced at RSA30-60.
Our food arrived in almost clockwork fashion, each element perfectly timed in accordance with table size and appetite, whilst allowing just enough latency to allow for full enjoyment. Our two girls (aged 18 and 20 years) can often be fussy eaters, but you wouldn't have though so here! Smiles, ooh's, ah's and contented faces were in exquisite abundance. As our subsequent choices were delivered to our table, the enjoyment persisted. Every single dish was deemed a raging success by all - rare that, I can tell you!
You really should make FORK a "must visit" when in Cape Town and - if you take my advice - don't miss the Chicken on Fondant Potato with Leek and Curry sauce. There is not a superlative which could do that dish justice.
I have never before been to a restaurant anywhere in the world which has totally satisfied my (often) finicky ways...but I have now. Really, "You gotta eat Here!"
PS: On a personal note to the "Head Cheese" and staff - thank you.
