Description: Addis in Cape! Voted best African Eatery in Cape Town, an authentic Ethiopian restaurant that caters for Non-vegetarian, Vegan and Vegetarian clients. We provide a unique communal dining experience you, your family and friends will remember. From traditional hand-wash ceremonies to our traditional Ethiopian coffee we promise a memorable experience. Ethiopian cuisine is famous for its rich aromas and generous use of herbs and spices. The country was historically situated on trading routes that included the trade of many exotic spices; this history has had a tremendous influence on the taste of Ethiopian food as we know it. Today most of the herbs and spices are blended and prepared in the home with great love and attention, as are those used in Addis in Cape. The dishes that you taste here are unique to Ethiopia and we are proud as a restaurant to share them with you.

“Yummy!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

It was the end of a wonderful holiday and we decided to end it on a great culinary note --- having heard good things about the place, we dined at Addis in Cape Town. Although it doesn’t have an impressive entrance, you feel instantly welcomed when you step into this warm, funky-looking restaurant with its entrancing colorful African décor. The place was abuzz with animated conversation and there wasn’t a table to be had.
The bar had a limited offering but the food was outstanding. Not having had Ethiopian cuisine earlier we were guided by our waiter in our choices and have to say did extremely well for it. The Injira was very much like our Indian ‘dosa’ and the meats and vegetables served on it were succulent, full of flavor and their delicious gravy soaks into the base, leaving you with delectable mouthfuls best eaten using your hands! The place was packed, but the service was excellent. Not an experience to miss and we have certainly been recommending it to all headed to Cape Town

“this simmers to the top of the cultural melting pot that is Cape Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2014

As a tour guide i have been bringing large groups through here on a regular basis for 4 years and i simply cant understand why it has ANY negative reviews. It is no secret that Cape Town is a cultural melting pot and as such the choice for places to eat is extraordinary BUT if you are looking for friendly and helpful service and a great, unique and VERY tasty meal then you will find it and love it here!

in the last 4 years i have brought in or recommended this restaurant to HUNDREDS of people, and aside from a few billings issues (which you come to expect for groups of 25-30 people), there has never been 1 complaint.

on a personal note, as a non-african, yes it can take a while for your meal to come out and, yes, sometimes the waiters are hard to find, but if you can't handle 'Africa time', then your whole stay over here is going to be disappointing. take those reviews with a grain of salt as they are upset with the wrong things

“Blend food”

Good location and a very nice place to visit but the food was tasteless and a bit boring unfortunately. You would expect a lot more from the look of the resturant than what you got from the food

“Delicious Etiopian finger food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2014

I have visited Addis in Cape two times. The service is good and the place suits well for meeting friends as well as having a romantic dinner. The menu has a great variety of Etiopian foods ranging from mild to really hot. But what's special about this place? The answer is the fact that the tablecloth is made of edible dough, the food is poured on to the table and ate with dough rolls. Really good flavors. For me some of the foods were a bit too hot so ordering a tomato salad as side was definitely a wise choice.

“Extraordinary evening!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2014

My daughter and I ate here in July during an extended visit to South Africa. The restaurant was busy but they easily found room for us - really courteous. I lived in Ethiopia in the 80s and was looking forward it what they had to offer, and it was brilliant - the food was fantastic, the service excellent, and they catered beautifully for my extremely vegetarian daughter. Great atmosphere, lots of humour, and a conversation about old times in Ethiopia with one of the staff really rounded off a great evening.
