“Outstanding service at an outstanding location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2010

I had the pleasure of staying at the Cape Royale in October and was simply blown away by the experience. Every detail of this property oozes class and it is clear that this Hotel is run by a passionate and dedicated team. 1800 Degrees Restaurant will quickly become a Cape Town landmark and its neighbors - Camil's and Bamboo Restaurant (with its colourful staff) provide the ultimate venue.

Equinox spa must be one of the top in the Country.

Thanks to all for a fantastic stay.

Very simply, our recent stay at the Cape Royale Luxury Hotel in Cape Town far surpassed any preconceived ideas we might have had upfront - especially from a hotel appealing to both the tourist and business traveller - and at the somewhat frenetic time during the lead-up to the 2010 Soccer World Cup. The service, the facilities, the attitude of the staff was all superb - I'd highly recommend it - from an already admirably high base, it can only get better and better as it becomes more established.

In January, we stayed two nights in the Cape Royale in Cape Town. What an exciting place! We really liked everything in this hotel (especially the upgrade to a suite). The room, the amazing restaurant (called 1800 degrees), the roofterrace (good cocktails!) and the people in the hotel. The concierge Madnee (the older man) helped us very well. When we left Cape Royale for a week in the wineregion, he advised us about good restaurants and other places in and around the city of Franschhoek. Thanks!

We'll sure come back to this fantastic hotel!

Travelled to Cape Town with a 8 guys in Jan 2010 on golf and fun holiday, stayed in the Cape Royale hotel for the second time, its a wonderful hotel. The new steak house restaurant 1800 hundred degrees was simply outstanding, the food was superb, service excellent and value for money incredible. This is a top end steak house to rival anything in the world with Cape Town charm and hospitality, cant wait to go back. My favourite was the 400 gram fillet steak cooked medium rare came with trimmings for less than 20 euro.

This is a top class hotel in every aspect - added to that the 1800 restaraunt is quite likely the best around.

I really wanted to love this place, as many here on tripadvisor seem to, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me.

The positives are that the rooms are large, modern and clean with a lovely supply of Charlotte Rhys toiletries. Those members of staff we spoke to were also very friendly. The location is also great - very close to the V&A Waterfront with all the shops and restaurants - although in the evening they still recommend getting a cab rather than walking (for safety reasons). We also arrived very early in the morning and they were kind enough to get us straight into our room.

The downside points are really points of detail, but as they market themselves as 5*, you would expect them to be sorted out. First, when we got into the room there was no toilet roll at all which seemed very odd. Second, in the cupboards there were no coat hangers - not a single one. We phoned housekeeping about the toilet roll and the hangers. The toilet roll was replaced fairly quickly. Unfortunately the hangers never arrived, despite two requests for them, during our entire stay. There was also no hairdryer in the room. Again, we asked housekeeping for one and after 20 minutes had to phone again before one arrived. Our stay was in late December and we did hear from someone else that some of the housekeeping function was rearranged in January, so maybe these issues are now sorted out.

Another slightly odd experience was that we had wanted to take the cable car up to Table Mountain. We told the concierge this when we went to see him. He looked up a website and said that it wasn't busy, and then got us a cab to Table Mountain. So far, so good. However, what he didn't mention was that you could buy the tickets online and avoid a huge queue. Also, despite him telling us that the cable car looked pretty clear, by time we had gotten our taxi there (not very long after), there was a four hour queue! We didn't want to spend that long in the blistering heat, so we went back down again without using the cable car.

Like I say, in terms of location for the shops and restaurants it is great, and the rooms are certainly clean and modern. However, I couldn't really see myself staying here again given our experiences which were not particularly 5*.

I don't usually take the time to post reviews (naughty) but this hotel was such a pleasant surprise, they deserve the praise. Staff were friendly and helpful always. Concierge went absolutely out of his way to help us, making his night manager baby sit our children when the baby sitter didn't turn up on time. We stayed in an immaculate modern 2 bedroom suite which felt like a hotel suite but still had its own kitchenette (with washing machine and dryer built in) and dining area which we so needed to cater for small kids. The room was cleaned every day by staff who even washed up the plates I had left in the kitchen. FYI: The hotel did also had an impressive 3 bedroom apartment with 2 levels (loft style feel) but unfortunately did not suit us because of the floating stairs and our small toddler who would have loved them! Only negative thing I could possibly say is it had a small pool that was a little chilly (not heated) but it was outside with a stunning bar area and our kids did have a lot of fun in it! Fabulous hotel for small kids - for a family of 5 we could not have got better value and been more comfortable.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Trip Advisor. We do believe that our suites are very comfortable for travellers with children. We have noted your concerns regarding the cool pool and have addressed these with our Maintenance Team who will be raising the temperature of the Solar heating of our pool. We hope that during your next visit you'll find the pool temperature perfect.
