We stayed at the dysART hotel in May during a one week vacation in Cape Town. Run by several German expatriates who seem to really understand the boutique hotel scene, this hotel was a fantastic blend of a minimalist-style theme that really captures the 'Conde-Naste' postcard essence of Cape Town's beach community. The staff were very friendly, professional, and customer-service orientated. The complimentary breakfast was fantastic, as there is a mix of pastries and cooked-to order items. What we also liked was its rather intimate location, tucked between some very quiet residential streets right above one of the larger motorways in Cape Town with a terrific variety of sea-side restaurants and shops. The views from our room were nothing less than breathtaking and an oasis of calm relaxation (despite some dissappointing weather).

My only suggestion for improvement was that we didn't realize there was a charge for gym pass access to a nearby commercial facility, so we're a little 'surprised' during checkout. Also, the laundry service is a bit expensive compared to the rates charged at the laundry down the street.

But the cost of certain guest services aside, the DysArt is a fantastic boutique hotel experience and a refreshing escape from larger chain hotels and impersonal atmospheres.

We travelled to Cape Town for the World Cup and chose the Dysart guest house because of its great location near to the Waterfront (10 min walk) and the Green Point Stadium (5 min walk).

The Dysart did not disappoint at all. The location was fantastic - a quiet residential street which felt very safe with a few local restaurants within a very short walk. The owners and staff were extremely helpful and had good recomendations around places to visit and restaurants (Baia at the Waterfront and Paranga in Camps Bay are very good). Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were only too happy to also arrange day excursions or taxis as required which made life very easy.

The rooms were immaculate and spacious with all you would expect of a 5 star guesthouse and the breakfast provided each day was very good with hot meals cooked to order and a wide selection of breads, meats and fruit.

Excellent guesthouse and I would strongly recommend it if you want to stay in a great location in Cape Town.

My husband and myself had booked to stay at the Dysart for 5 nights starting 10th April. We have been visiting South Africa for many years und usually stay in the Constantia area but wanted to make it a two centre holiday this time and spend a few days in town. We selected the Dysart on the basis of the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor.

Some days before we were due to arrive we decided to check it out so we would know how to drive to it. Firstly, the Dysart is located behind the Green Point Stadium. From the Main Road you can access the Dysart through some very narrow streets up the hill. As there was nowhere to park we had to leave our car on Main Road and walk. We arrived at the property and were granted access (heavy security). Our first impression was that the picture of the pool which is on the website must have been taken with a very wide angle lens because is was a very narrow strip in reality. The entire reception and public areas stank of cigarette smoke. I noticed that all people present (including the owners) were smoking heavily. Upon enquiring were to park we were told “in the garage” but, as there is only space for two cars and the property had more bedrooms than this it would mean you have to park on the street.

Upon returning to Main Road were our car was parked the car had parked behind ours had already had been broken into – we must have been 20 minutes away, no longer.

Our hosts in Constantia – themselves owners of bed & breakfast told us that the area where the Dysart is a) dangerous and b) very close to the red light area. The “myriad restaurants and bars within minutes on Main Road” as quoted on their website consists mainly of cheap burgers bars - anywhere else you need to take the car. Besides, you would not walk around the after dark. When they mention the “nearby Waterkant” they do not mention that you cannot walk there, you need to drive.

Given all the above we decided to change our plans and not to stay at the Dysart. I cannot comment on the quality of the rooms as we felt no need to find out since, for the reasons above, we had decided not to stay there.

Serveral weeks before we were due to arrive the hotel already debited our credit card with half the amount due for our stay. As we were within the 7 day cancellation we appealed to their good will but they insisted that they wanted to charge us in full which they did. Our landlord in Constantia tried to reason with them but to no avail. He did mention that there is only space in the garage for two cars and was told that “they were working on it”.

We feel that we are to blame ourselves because the did not pay more attention when we booked it but I really want to warn fellow travellers of this hotel, you will get a nasty shock when you arrive and the owners are unhelpful and only interested in taking your money of you.

this review " A word of Warning " was written by guest who never stayed at dysART. They had a confirmed booking for 4 nights. They stayed at Constantia stables guesthouse before and we received a phone call from the owner Constantia stables guesthouse and he informed me, that the guest will not stay at dysart because Green Point is a bad district in regards unsafe " red light district " and dirty.
I told him, this was the situation of some years ago, now it is the opposite with 5 Star Hotels and nice restaurants. He told me that the guest will not stay at dysART. I told him that we have cancelation rules, so we must handle this as a no show ( 4 days ) before arrival not refundable ( 7 days before ) 50% back. So of cause the guest where not happy.
This is the reason that we get a review " terrible" and this dropped us from position No 7 now to No 12. We sent a protest to triatvisor and told them what happens and they should take it off. First they did and now its on again. Please take it off.
Best regards
LO Weber

5 star PLUS Boutique Guesthouse - Total Luxury !!! Consider yourself very lucky if you can stay at Dysart as this place is a GEM. Location is wonderful and easy to find - I drove from the airport and got there with no problem. Near by you have a main road with little cafes, grocer and restaurants and 5 minutes away is the V&A Waterfront, the stadium and amazing restaurant called Beluga - a must.
You arrive at Dysart and it feels like a little heaven. Everything is super neat and clean, the deco is fantastic - such attention to all details ! The pool is like taken straight from a high end deco magazine.
We got a warm welcome and felt at home at once - thanks to the wonderful 'Dysart family' which they really are and you will be looked after like a family. Lo, Peter and Frank will stop at nothing to make sure your stay is perfect. No matter how many questions you may have ( trust me I had zillion ), you will get all the answer, suggestions, recommendation, you name it and it's done ! That's what one can call REAL service !
The rooms are great ( I saw most of them ) and i love the room keys with the real colourful feathers.....very good room size, the bed is very comfortable not to forget about the lovely pillows and duvet and crisp sheets ! After a busy days out, you'll sleep like a baby ! Bathrooms are to die for - a very important point as far as I'm concerned. You can dance in the shower. It's so funky and cool. Again, the arty deco shines through everywhere you look.
Come breakfast time and you will be treated to a super elegant experience.
Buffet with everything on it.... juices, cold cuts, salmon, cereals, breads, jams and freshly cut fruits. Ask for any tea or coffee and it will be served in a sec. For all those egg lovers.....you name it and they will do it. Now you can start your day.
In the evening you can enjoy a nice glass of wine and relax before your dinner. Taxis are easily arranged and by the time you'll return, you will be greeted by a lovely Martin who will bid you good night and make sure all is well and safe.
My mum and I stayed at Dysart for a week and we loved it. We are normally difficult to please and we do scrutinize everything but we couldn't fault this place on any counts
( which we did to eg: The Chedi in Oman which is supposed to be a top notch place !!! ).
Half a year later and we still reminisce about out stay in Dysart and the whole South Africa trip which in our heart will remain as one of the best ever ! We hugged and left with tears but we hope to return one day soon.
Thank you to all of you at Dysart as each person contributes and makes it such an amazing place. We miss you !

I really didn't know what to expect when I got to South Africa, and after a long flight of 18 hours, staying here made it worth it. Peter, Martin, and the rest of the staff were nothing but awesome. The location was a 10 min walk to the stadium and V & A Waterfront. The morning buffet was sooo good and hot foods were made to order. Anytime we needed a recommendation of a place to go, or something to eat, they came through. Only issue I had, was that we didn't stay long enough. We only stayed for 6 days, when it really takes about 2 weeks to thoroughly enjoy the city. The room we had was nice, and the bathroom stone floors and carpet were heated. I will definitely be staying here for my next vacation in Cape Town!

The dysART guesthouse is the nicest accomodation you will find in Cape Town ... IF you like the following (as we did !!!): it's a 5 star guesthouse. The interior design is beautiful, with a lot of modern chic and love for details, and very comfortable. Each of the 6 rooms has its unique character and view (we had a sea view, additionally looking over robben island and the brand new stadium!). The owners Lo, Pete and Frank are incredibly kind and personal "travel guidance" is guaranteed. The V&A Waterfront (marvellous place to shop, eat, drink and enjoy music and harbour atmosphere) is at walking distance (15min. past the new stadium). In case you need to get around in Cape Town, call Intercab taxis (very kind and reliable) to the hotel or use the red/blue tourist bus lines, which stop at 2 locations near dysART. They take you all around town in 2 hours and you can hop on or off anytime. If you plan on going to Cape Town for the World Cup, there's no better place to stay than the dysART, also of course in terms of distance to the stadium. Bottom line: Perfect stay !!! We'll be back !!! ... Manuel & Britta
