“Ideal base to explore the Cape”
Reviewed February 22, 2009

Helpful & friendly staff, great breakfasts served on the patio, small but pleasant pool area to chill out after your long flight. We initially had a room that backed onto the road and we asked to move to somewhere a little quieter, and the staff were yet again very helpful and for a small fee we moved to room with lovely sea views, where we watched the dolphins jumping every night over sun downers. More an apartment feel to the place, ideal for exploring Camps bay and the Cape.

It was our first visit to South Africa and our first port of call and Brighton Court in Camps Bay was perfect. Its beachfront location is superb and our 3-bedroom apartment had a fabulous view through its huge bay window overlooking the beach. The only downside to the apartment was having just one bathroom between the 5 of us (2 adults, 2 kids aged 16, 11 and 11). We stayed on a self-catering basis and bought breakfast from the local supermarket which was more than adequate. Breakfast was provided for guests in a small area near the main reception office for those on b & b or for a charge. The staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful when booking excursions, restaurants etc.

Camps Bay is a perfect location for all the sightseeing in Cape Town. The hop-on, hop-off sightseeing tour bus stops just outside the Bay Hotel and is a perfect way to get your bearings around the city.

The restaurants along the beachfront are bustling, lively and so reasonable (compared with UK prices) and if the exchange rate is good you can eat very cheaply indeed and enjoy great cuisine. You should also be aware of the "leisurely service" in all restaurants!

Camps Bay itself is in a beautiful setting with the 12 Apostles as its back drop, just 10 min drive to the V & A waterfront and lovely beaches ............ what could be better?

I stayed at the Camps Bay Resort for a week in July, not the best time of the year to visit Cape Town.
This resort offers fantastic value for money whilst still maintaining good service and well appointed rooms.

SERVICE: Fantastic, staff are absolutely wonderful and really go out of their way to make your trip fun. They are always on hand to assist in booking day tours and have breakfast included at the 5 star Camps Bay Retreat. The cleaning staff have the rooms cleaned and re stocked early and same time everyday and are very consistent and friendly. Overall 5 stars for service!

SECURITY: This one is a biggy and I found this to be no problem at all staying at this property. There is a night guard watching the front gate at all times as well as night reception. All rooms have locks and Windows have security bars. I felt extremely safe staying here. The hotel is also opposite some very popular restaurants that run late int the night so this is also a good thing, there is always other tourists walking by.

ROOMS: I stayed in a Standard room, the ones that have individual names. The rooms are massive, with the bathrooms the size of most hotel rooms alone. Very well appointed lots of coffee and teas, with free satellite TV. Beds are large and comfortable with a large selection of pillows. I high suggest you request a room on the second floor with a balcony as these look over camps bay and have tables so you can watch the sunset. You can also see the 12 apostles from these rooms with ease. overall rooms are great value and you get so much more for what you pay for, i would give the rooms 4 star for comfort and 5 star for the huge size!

LOCATION: well what to say? this property is in the most fantastic location. I will always stay in camps bay as it is only 10 min drive to the city, yet you are in the most cosmopolitan place in Cape Town. The resort is 2 minute walk to the beach and all the restaurants. great for family's and couples who don't want to have catch taxis or navigate around all day. 5 Star for the location.

OVERALL: this property is a must stay, its a great value and of excellent quality. But it is truly the staff at this property that make it such an enjoyable stay!.

  • Liked — The fantiastic staff and the huge rooms.
  • Disliked — no parking, only on the streets. There is a 24 hour gaurd watching at all times though.

Camps Bay Resort is a collection of rooms rather than a hotel block, each has kitchenette and bathroom. They are just off the beach in Camps Bay. It's really clean and tidy with off street parking (for a fee) and many of the rooms have a direct sea view.

We stayed there for a few days for two years running, its a great base to explore the cape and cape town, its also brilliantly located for the local restaurants and nightlife so you can go out for dinner without worrying about driving. We've never had one of the ultra modern rooms shown in some of their promotional photos but they've always been comfortable and spacious with the advantage of a fridge etc.

Breakfast is simple and good quality, served on a sunny terrace and the restaurant staff are charming.

The location could not have been better (well maybe 200 meters better) and the rooms were OK, nothing special with a tiny TV. There were cooking facilities and a fridge if that is your thing, but to be honest there were so many cheap restaurants in the area you wouldn't want to cook.

Really close to a beautiful beach and handy for the hop on hop off tour bus. Recommended for the price.

We stayed in the camps bay resort for 6 nights, the first 4 in apt 8 in Brighton Court, the last 2 in apt 12. We arrived in Camps Bay on a Friday evening, had difficulty getting accommodation and were lucky that we came across this complex, were even luckier to have apartments facing the sea. Patrick who was on reception on Friday was most helpful & looked after us at all times during our stay. He showed the apartment on Friday evening and advised me that he could provide No 8 for 4 nights, that there was a booking for that specific apartment but he would put us into another apartment for the remaining 2 nights which would also be facing the sea.

The apartments are directly across the road from the beach, beside restaurants & supermarkets & are only 200m from the local police station. They are about 5 minutes drive from Table Mountain and 10/15 minutes drive from V & A Waterfront. We found it best to drive along the sea front to the V & A rather than going across the hill top. The apartments are in a very safe location, in fact my daughter and I walked from here to seapoint most evenings (8.8K return trip) and met many others out walking also. There is a foot path all along the route and you have fabulous views across the sea.

My husband & I loved apt. No 8, it was a 2 bed apt on the ground floor, decent sitting room and fine kitchen cum dining area. There was a washing machine, dishwasher, micro wave, fridge, cooker, kettle as well as all modern delph & cutlery. DSTV was also included. It was very well maintained, in fact a new microwave was installed during our stay. It also has air con/heater, an ensuite in the main bedroom with bath cum shower as well as the main bathroom.

Patrick brought me to view No 12 which was on the first floor the day before we moved. It was a much larger apartment than No 8 but the decor was not to my liking as I found the colours dark (black/maroon tiles, goldish paint on the ceilings). On sensing my reservations about the apartment Patrick offered to show me other premises, depsite my reservations about the decor I decided to stay in it because of the sea views & the space. My daughter who is the creative type absolutely adored No 12.

Like No 8 it was spotlessly clean, had washing machine, dryer, cooker, fridge etc but It only has one bathroom. A big plus for this apartment is that you could open the windows and enjoy the weather and the view at the same time which was not possible in No 8.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. To give you an example, on the day we moved apartments it was lashing rain and the lady who was cleaning No 12 when we were bringing across our luggage came down to No 8 and offered to bring bags across for us, excellent customer service.

There was keypad access to the apartment block from the main road, parking was available at an additional cost. There appeared to be safe parking on the main roads as they were monitored constantly by car attendants.

The complex has a swimming pool with sun lounges, but as it was spring we did not get to use them. We did get the opportunity to spend time on the lovely beach. There is a surf school on this beach and it was great to watch everyone trying out their skills.

During our stay the electricity went and we presumed that it was off throughout all properties, it turned out that we had too many appliances on at the same time and had blown the fuses. Maintenance will address these issues quickly.

We will be returning to South Africa for a week in the summer and will definitely stay at these apartments and would have no hesitation in recommending Camps Bay resort.

One word of warning about Apt No 12 we all felt that the main bed area was unsafe as there is a gap between the wall & floor area that even a slim adult could slip through. We wondered if the upper bedroom area had been built in at a later stage. We would not recommend this apartment for families with small children

  • Liked — the location, across the road from beach, near supermarket & restaurants
  • Disliked — the upper bedroom area in apt 12

We stayed at a Classic Studio with Camps Bay Village for four nights in May.

The studio is on a road that is just off Victoria Road and the beach and is adjacent to the sports field. We stayed B&B - breakfast was at the Bay Hotel which was fantastic!

The apartments/studios have key pad access to the garden which has a swimming pool and sun loungers and a view of the beach. The apartments are very well equipped and spotlessly cleaned every day. The beds are fantastically comfy (they are the same beds used in the five star Bay Hotel).

This is the second time we've stayed at these apartments and both times we've had a great time with no problems. There is no parking so you have to park on the street but it is a safe area and we had no problems with this.

There is a fantastic italian restaurant at the end of the street that overlooks the beach - a definite reccommendation!

I would definitely stay here again if you like to have some independence and privacy when on holiday.

The rooms are a good size, comfortable, excellently equipped and perfectly cleaned with DSTV for those who like to keep in toch with the world when on holiday.

Staff are very friendly and when you check in you get a 'welcome box' which is stocked with tea/coffee and other items you need when you first arrive which is a lovely touch.
