stayed at the primi royal for four nights we had room 8 which had great views from it the location of the hotel is only one street behind the seafront the staff were friendly and helpful the only down side was it was a bit cramped in the common areas the reception the bar the lounge and the dinning area were all in the same room
for breakfast they have five tables and ten chairs so we had a situation were to many guests turned up at the same time for breakfast and could not be seated they had to come back later
[they were offered a table outside but it was to cold ] i would stay at this hotel again out of season and with the right room

We stayed at the Primi Royal during the last week of March 2008 because we couldn't get into my favourite Cape Town hotel (the beloved Cape Heritage, see my reviews of that!). We decided to stay in Camps Bay for a change of scenery.

We arrived at the hotel about midnight and first impressions of our standard room were a bit disappointing. It was small (ok, it was a standard room), but the problem was the bathroom. It had no shower, just a continental-style sit-down tub. It was GIANT, which was good, but the problem was it had scratches all over the bottom which looked like little black hairs. Because it looked so suspect I had to give it a thorough inspection and did, alas, find a hair. I wouldn't normally write about a single hair in a Tripadvisor review, but the problem was the hair plus all the scratches (combined with the fact that you had to sit down to use it!) made my imagination go wild and left me not wanting to use it! I cleaned it myself and, after braving it the first time, have to admit I really liked it.

Now, I said the room was small, but after pulling back the curtains in the morning....MY GOD WHAT A VIEW. The view was spectacular, even from our standard room. Between the view and the sunshine, I didn't care about the size of the room. (We did have a peak at a few of the other, bigger rooms and it definitely seems like its worth the extra for a luxury room. They looked really nice and big, and one with a jacuzzi on the balcony.)

Overall the staff were friendly and pleasant and everything else about the experience was essentially positive. I think the bottom line is that it's a corporate hotel and you can feel it. A bit soulless compared to other places (like the Cape Heritage), but between the view and the price, I would stay there again.

Well located for beach and Camps Bay's excellent restaurants. Quick taxi ride into town and Waterfront area.
Staff very friendly and helpful, good breakfast BUT the room we had was not 4 star. Room number 6 (I think!), twin but really a single, no view, no place to put luggage, single wardrobe, tired bathroom with just a shower (erratic) and one tiny shelf for toiletries. No view to speak of,
Some of the other rooms we saw were nicer and larger but be wary when.booking. They did try to sort it out and gave one of us another room for part of our stay .
4 star hotel but a 2/3 star room.

Just back from a trip to Cape Town to run the Two Oceans Ultra. Stayed at the Primi Royal which was recommended by Trail Finders. After reading some of the reviews I was a litle apprehensive, but in short, the hotel was wonderful and I need not have worried about anything. Being a boutique hotel the service was much more personal, which was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful and the location was perfect - only a view minutes walk from the main promende and restaurants. I had booked a standard room which was fine. My partner and I had no problems with the size which seems, in some reviews, to have been a problem.

In conclusion, I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

We stayed at the Primi-Royal for three nights during the Easter holiday. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay- the room was comfortable and spacious with a gorgeous view of the ocean. Further, the hotel is just a short walk to the beach, shops and restaurants in Camps Bay. The staff at the Primi-Royal were fantastic- welcoming and attentive. I would absolutely stay at this hotel again.

A great location a couple of streets back from the beach although only a 2 minute walk to some excellent restaurants.

Very relaxed atmosphere, excellent service, nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. My partner had won a competition for 'Regional Director of the Year.' I emailed the hotel to see if anything special could be done to recognise his achievements. We were delighted to find that we had in fact been upgraded..twice! Our room was superb..huge...a suite.. and covering a whole floor. We had a 4 poster bed which was covered in rose petals... our views of Camps Bay and the beach area were to die for. The balcony was huge. It really was a great surprise as we had only booked a standard room.

Although the pool is only tiny...we found we were very busy seeing the sights of Cape Town and the surounding areas so it really was not an issue. Breakfast was fresh with a choice of danish pastries, croissants, cerials, toast and a full breakfast cooked to order. Staff were very smiley and helpful.

Locally we found some great restaurants. Try Caprice for tapas... very cool bar near the beach...great for lunch... really enjoyed their food, service very good too.

We would have no hesitation in booking Primi Royal again. So pleased we booked Camps Bay rather than the Waterfont. Although the Waterfront was fantastic..Camps Bay was very cool.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 days in december 2007, family with 3 children (8,10,12). It was booked for us and we expected some luxury in a tranquil place with a nice seaview. Well, that was a big disappointment! The hotel is tucked away between other buildings, we haven't seen a tree or flower anywhere, the hotel has a very small swimmingpool, a small breakfast/lounge area, has small corridors, the standard room has a poor bathroom, the outside looks very worn, the street is overcrowded (during Christmas especially), not what we expected at all! The hotel to us has the atmosphere of a youth hostel, maybe a bit more.
When you go out for dinner you walk to an area along the boulevard. Very crowded, beggars everywhere, low quality food, a bit scary even. It was Christmas and it seems to be beter during other periods.
It is not an area you go to with kids of 8,10, and 12. You can't get into the sea and as it is very hot you want to take a dip in the pool! Well, that is not really possible.
We feel the hosts are very friendly and helpful, but the hotel is not at all worth 4 stars, maybe 2 or 3. I think of the European kind of 'stars'-standard.
