This is a wonderful boutique hotel with all the amenities, breathtaking views and wonderfully, warm South African service and hospitality (not stuffy or snooty, yet high end). While it's a bit (15 min) outside the city, the views and the hotel are worth it. Plus, there is a complimentary shuttle service every hour.

I recently stayed (September 2011) at this hotel with friends from England for three days/nights.
The hotel is situated on the west coast side of the Cape peninsula on the Camps/Hout bay road and within reasonable distance to most things in the Cape. We had a hire car so no problems on that front. As we arrived so staff pounced and wisked away our bags where we were easily checked in, no fuss. I had booked a superior room overlooking the oceanfront . I should point out that it is a non swimming beachfront so no issues there. I was then delighted to be informed that we were upgraded to a single bedroom suite. I have never been upgraded ever so had to resist the temptation to high five everyone or similar uncool behaviour! Needless to say the suite was fantastic with sliding doors to the outside and views of the Atlantic Ocean. You can sit in bed and look straight out to uninterupted sea views.
We ate three times in The Azure restaurant, described as fine dining, after drinks beforehand in the bar upstairs. You can sit outside at both but the weather was not favourable. I particularly liked the bar which has a colonial feel to it. You also have breakfast in the Azure restaurant and this is stocked with all the usual breakfast treats with my wife taking full advantage of the oysters.
The whole stay was made pleasurable by the staff who looked after us on every occaision, nothing being too much trouble. I would like to thank Thabang Rapotu the guest relations manager who made sure everything went smoothly. I should point out that there was not much wrong to moan about.
The Bad Stuff; well nothing to pull your hair out about. The breakfast service was a bit slow when you asked for something that had to be cooked over and above, such as eggs, and the coffee was not great. We sorted that out by ordering capoccinos.
My wifes dinner of Cape Malay chicken curry one night was awful apparently, with rubbery chicken and thin chilli sauce.
I also think the in room coffee making needs changing. You can't make enough for two and there's no fresh milk, so again we cured that by ordering room service.
One thing for sure is on my next trip to Cape Town there will be no wringing of hands as to which hotel to stay at. Tick VG

Room Tip: Anything overlooking the Atlantic is a no brainer.

The reception was warm and service orientated. Great hotel even for South Africans, the food impecable and the staff friendly. The room we booked was a superior room, with a balcony, and worth it for those of us who still smoke.
Breakfast is well stocked and offers the guest a varienty of choices. We had dinner at the Azure Restaurant on the 1st floor of the hote with a private wine tasting and surely enjoyed it.
The only negative aspect that we noticed was the balcony which was not cleaned daily, also the housekeeper did not turn the room fully one evening, but this could have just been an oversight.
When booking a room, try to get a sea facing room. The mountain view is also nice.

Our recent stay at 12A was summed up by my 5 year old daughter who asked me at breakfast one morning: "Mom, are we famous?". She was utterly convinced that we must be very special and famous for so many people to know our names and provide us with such attentive service - and for a 5 year old to "get that", you can surely now understand how well we were looked after! Milk and cookies for her bed turndown every evening and chocolates for mine! Not only a gown for my use but a gown in her size in the bathroom too. A movie of her choice with popcorn and hot chocolate in the hotel's amazing movie theatre - she loved the red seats! Every staff member knowing who she was (and we are in fact by no means famous, just a family from Johannesburg!) and greeting her by name. Magnificent gardens with awesome mountain paths perfect for exploring! I could go on and on.....but suffice to say that we were over the moon with our stay.

We arrived a day late in Cape Town because of a cancelled flight, and when we arrived at the Twelve Apostles we had been upgraded to an oceanfront suite! What a nice gesture after our difficult travels. The hotel is beautiful, set a bit back from the Atlantic ocean, tucked under the Twelve (some say 18) Apostles mountain range, just south of Cape Town. The hotel maintains a fleet of Mercedes sedans and minivans, and these can be reserved as private cars or, if you can be flexible, as free shuttles to/from Cape Town. The hotel rooms/suites are beautiful, well appointed, and luxurious. The main restaurant, Azure, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there we enjoyed the best duck we have ever eaten. The grounds of the hotel are lush and green, even in the dry season, with beautiful plantings and two swimming pools, lounges and even a hammock. We could not recommend this hotel more highly.

Room Tip: Suites 203-207 face the ocean - fabulous sunset views
