I loved everything about my short stay at Camps Bay Retreat - except that it was too short. The food, the service and facilities were great. The staff were absolutely superb - very friendly, helpful and well trained. The dogs made it feel like home! I will stay at the Camps Bay Retreat again

The name Camps Bay Retreat sums up this small hotel perfectly. Away from the general bustle of Camps Bay, it is an ideal spot to enjoy peace, relaxation and to dine in quite exquisite surroundings.

Our days began with breakfast on the terrace, followed by a walk along the spectacular Camps Bay beach which is easily accessed through the gardens, then returning to the tennis court. And what a tennis court, with the sea to one side, the Twelve Apostles to the other and the Kloofnek behind, concentration was difficult. Reception always told the bar that 'guests were on court' and before long one of them would appear with a jug of iced water and a bottle of home made lemonade - perfect!

What makes Camps Bay Retreat so unusual are the little extras - the amazing herb garden entirely grown in terracotta pots, the Mountain Pool and the dogs - five of them! There is always a 'star' though and this is Wanda. There is no sunset with a glass of wine that Wanda and a tennis ball doesn't enjoy with you.

I hope the guy from Ireland who wrote this in the visitor's book will forgive me for repeating his words, and adding my own - he wrote; Tell no-one of this place lest they step on our dream, for we have found a little piece of heaven. I want to add....and we fell in love with a dog called Wanda.

But remember - it's a secret!

Camps Bay Retreat is a superb place to stay during a trip to Cape Town. It is a gorgeous serene boutique hotel set in lush gardens which are still being developed. From the veranda you wander through the trees to a road and then on to the wide golden Camps Bay beach overlooked by the Twelve Apostles mountain range. The hotel welcomes you in every way and gives the impression of a country house weekend with sumptuous rooms and cosy sitting rooms and a library. The staff are extremely helpful and charming. The meals are excellent and the BBQ (braai) magnificent. The icing on this delicious cake are the house dogs who are friendly but not intrusive and if you are not a dog lover do not book here;if you are go nowhere else. AWe have fond memories

We stayed at the retreat after the recommendation of the Harbor Hotel Hermanus and we did not regret it. This property is just amazing and one of the most beautiful places we ever stayed at. The garden, the food, the setting, the spa treatment were just wonderful and the staff was great. We will for sure stay there again if we have the occasion to go back to Cape Town.
