A useful holiday base in Cape Town, just a short trip from Camps Bay strip.
Our room was spacious, neat and tidy. The House is actually on the Bakoven border so it is quieter than Camps Bay but also feels safer. Everything about this B&B is adequate if unspectacular.
My wife and I would stay again.

We stayed at the Ocen View House Hotel for 8 nights at the begining of may this year. We can not fault the place at all. From the minute we arrived until the minute we left the staff could not be more friendly and efficient. It was a joy to return to the hotel each evening after our daily sightseeing trips. The hotel was very quiet whilst we were there so we were given the option of having our breakfast in our room daily, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We slept very well as the beds were very comfortable and always had clean linen. We were always given good advise when enquiring about day trips etc. I'd like to than Kirsten, Tanya and all the staff for a wonderful stay. We plan to return very very soon.

We stayed at the guest house for three days and it was a wonderful time. We had an excellent service, a nice room with a beautiful view of the ocean and a really good breakfast. We will come back.

Our seventh visit that must tell you something! We first visited Cape Town and Ocean View in 2002 for a special birthday. It couldn’t have been more special. Not knowing quite what to expect, we arrived very early one gorgeous morning in February, to be greeted by the lovely, helpful staff – nothing was too much trouble for them. Anything you request, from table bookings at restaurants to where the local dentist is to be located. The same applies now.

Returning to OV year after year never fails to delight.

The gardens are sub tropical and welcoming, with lots of places to shade from the sun or indeed to take some rays, surrounded by the indigenous plants and birds, which in early spring and late autumn are a riot of colour. We did miss the fish pond’s abundance of Koy this Sept, but were told that OV had had an unwelcome visitor in the shape of an otter who had proceeded to demolish their wonderful stock of incredible fish.

The rooms at OV are contemporary with a few African artefacts tastefully placed in each. They are bright and spacious, some with breath taking views of either the sea or the twelve apostles behind the guesthouse. Unfortunately we have yet to see a whale breeching outside in Camps Bay yet – but may be on another visit?

We still enjoy the personnel service of every day receiving our weather forecast and our scrumptious chocs every evening when our bed is turned down, safe in the knowledge that our room will have been thoroughly cleaned and prepared for us by staff who are unobtrusive and always chatty and informative as to what is happening locally.

Breakfasts at OV are great! Whilst they may not quite enter the Gordon Ramsey league of gastronomy, there is always plenty of fresh seasonal fruit, coupled with all the usual cheeses, hams, delicious local nutty bread, (our only attempt at eating healthily) and of course your choice of cooked breakfast. In fact I’m sure if you requested multiple choices, the fabulous staff would continue to provide without batting an eyelid!

All in all OV never fails to deliver. It’s like returning to an old friend where you take up where you last left them, only to continue like you have never been away. I can’t wait for our next visit.

Although not strictly speaking in Camps Bay itself it takes only 20mins to walk to the shops and restaurants or a couple of mins by car. It seems a bit out of the way at first - but we realised quickly that if the alternative is staying in a very touristy area in downtown Cape Town we would pick this place anyday as Camps Bay has a great laid back feel about it.

We were upgraded to a suite on arrival - with a living area and kitchen which we didn't really need to make use of as there are excellent restaurants in Camps Bay (our favourite was Paranga).

The breakfasts were cooked to order and I had one of the best omlettes I've ever had!

Staff were very helpful with advice - and friendly too.

Would definitely recommend as an alternative to a big hotel.

The Ocean View Guest House is a owner-run bright and rather cute B&B in Bakoven. It is nestled in a nice garden half level between the ocean and the 12 Apostles.

I have to admit, that its location is really special, with a stunning ocean view in front of you and an awesome mountain behind you. Yet it is not right next to a bathing beach nor really near the city. It is a 3 minutes drive to the Camps Bay Promenade and a 15 -20 minutes drive to the V&A Waterfront or to City Bowl, so that having a car is essential. It's location is both its advantage as its downside. If you prefer calmer beach side guesthouses with a metropolis within reach of a couple of minutes, this is your accomodation. When we were ther at the end of winter, it was mainly the good deal we had got that made us stay there.

The rooms were very tidy and their sizes was okay. In comparisson to other hotels we had stayed in South Africa, they were nothing special for their price. Being there off season also made us feel a bit disconnected from the action. I also think that they had downsized their staff, because many times the front desk was not occupied. The breakfast was okay, but nothing to shout about.

The hotel is run by a German owner, and being German myself, I missed a bit of the South African hospitality we have encountered before. The service was a bit formal, correct but not always so warm hearted as it was in other places we have stayed.

All in all a nice guesthouse at a very special location, but not a place I would go to in the winter - it is a summer accomodation, and as such it should be very nice.
