We spent 4 nights here and really enjoyed it. The room was modern, clean and comfortable and staff friendly and helpful. There is good pool with lots of sun loungers. We ate a couple of times in the bistro and were pleased with the food and the service. The bar service was slow but pleasant. The breakfasts were excellent with a huge variety of fresh fruit and berries - the breakfast is served in the conservatory at the front with a lovely view out to sea.
The hotel is situated along a bustling promenade with lots of nice places to eat and drink in the evening. The bus stop for the open-top city tours is just opposite the hotel and you can reach the cable car for table mountain via the red route (city tour).
Though it would be very expensive for a longer holiday, I would recommend it for a short stay like ours.

Located on Camps Bay, this hotel is quite pleasant but somehow it exudes pretentions of grandeur that it doesn't seem to achieve. On the forecourt are two Porsche Panameras that are used to shuttle guests to their sister hotel. At the bar, I was served a bottle of local beer but was declined a glass. I was directed to a posher bar on the other side of the hotel where a glass and some nuts to nibble were provided at my request.

The location of the hotel is on the sea front, with a couple of good restaurants within easy reach. The hotel also has free WiFi, though as I recall it was available only in the foyer area.

The room and its bathroom of a good size and the bed is firm and comfortable. A complimentary plate of fruit is supplied at the start of the stay. Probably the best thing about this hotel is the breakfast, which is served in a conservatory perched above the entrance to the hotel. The view from here looking out to sea is very pleasant and in the bright sunlight it is quite a pleasure. The breakfast fare is good too.

Our biggest complaint is that the water in the bathroom was not hot enough for a good bath or shower and far too tepid for shaving. When I raised this the following morning I was told that someone would look into it, and that afternoon I was advised that the temperature was right but if I wished they 'could raise it a bit'. I asked them to do so but the water remained insufficiently hot. Added to this, there was only one bath towel between the two of us and it took another day to get the second one supplied. I can only assume that the low temperature of the water was a cost saving exercise, in which case this hotel should sell one of its cars and spend the money on basics.

Be aware that if you are driving to this hotel, you will receive a parking permit to stick in your windscreen but what they don't tell you in advance is that there is a daily charge although when we protested the charge was waived.

We moved here after staying at the Radisson Blu in Cape Town, and frankly, this place isn't a patch on that. It's perfectly adequate, just nothing special. If we return to Cape Town we are sure we can do better than this at the price.

On arrival, it took a long time for a porter to come to our car to take the luggage, without a trolley. Our car was then parked for us in the front of the hotel. It was only on checking out of the hotel, that we noticed that there is an 80 rand per day charge for parking there. Apparently there is free parking at the back of the hotel, although this was never mentioned to us. We asked the concierge for directions and no map was produced! We were given oral instructions how to get to where we wanted. We had booked a table at Tides for dinner, only to be informed that Tides is only for breakfast, that supper is served at the Bistro and our reservation was not noted in the book. The staff at breakfast were surly and it took quite some time for menus to appear. The only member of staff who seemed on the ball was the maitre d' of the Bistro, who was very helpful with the menu. This hotel seems to rely on its location for its 5 stars!

We decided to book 4 nights near the V&A at the Radisson blu followed by 4 nights in camps bay-we decided to opt for the bay hotel and splashed out on a premier sea facing room (c£400 per night). Whilst the hotel is lovely with stylish decor and an upmarket feel it was in our opinion not worth the extortionate cost per night, some of the points may seem picky but when you are paying through the nose for luxury you are assessing value for money...and having the comparison of the Radisson helps to set a benchmark...

The pro's - lots of sun loungers available, nice food (esp lovely breakfast), proximity to restaurants, nice decor with the exception of the pokey dated bathroom
The cons-limited wifi (very disappointing considering the cost of the stay), patchy service incl towels sometimes not replaced, also asking for drinks or food at breakfast and having it forgotten (in line with other reviews), small dated bathroom, no acknowledgement of our honeymoon. On a busy and sometimes noisy road.

We did have a nice stay but In contrast we paid half the cost per night at the Radisson for a sea facing room, had larger more modern rooms and a bigger balcony, overall better service, unlimited wifi and all the same pro's listed above plus sitting outside every day for breakfast can't be beaten- also a lovely decoration in our room & bottle of wine for our honeymoon. Unfortunately for the bay hotel you seem to be paying for the name and proximity to the beach which wasn't worth it in our opinion. If we were to return to camps bay again we would try the pod or the Atlantic suites!
Ps if you stay near to camps bay you have to visit the roundhouse for a meal, it was an amazing experience!

The Bistro in this hotel is very modern and must have recently been refitted and is part conservatory and very open plan.

As guests at the Camps Bay Retreat we were provided with complimentary chauffeur driven transport both to and from the Bay Hotel Bistro.

On arrival we were treated like royalty and they had a table ready offered us complimentary champagne and nibbles.

Our food order was taken and we could see the Chef at work and her team getting our meal ready.

Every dish was cooked to perfection and the desserts were so tempting but we were so full we could not manage any but promised ourselves another visit during the day for a coffee and dessert. The Chef said we were welcome anytime.

It was out of season and very cold at night but they had gas heaters all around to keep you hot and toasted. In the summer it must be great with the sides opened and the views over Camps Bay itself.

We did return and met up with the Chef and as it was very sunny we were taken through to the exclusive Sandy B Beach Club to enjoy our coffee and dessert treats.

The views overlooking Camps bay and the main road along the beach are great and you have the benefit of the pool. This is a very trendy spot and would no doubt be jammed packed in the Cape Summer. As it was we had the place to ourselves and could people watch in exclusive surroundings and privacy.

When we were finished a phone call was made and again we were chauffeur driven back to our own Hotel. Now that is what I call service above and beyond the norm. They certainly went the extra mile for you.

Decided to spend a few nights here as a base for exploring Cape Town. Very comfortable modern rooms overlooking the bay and conveniently located for restaurants and the beach. Although there are several small pools, we found the rows of sunbeds on the terraces a bit off-putting - although there was always space. We noted a few inconsistencies in service and housekeeping that mark the difference between a very good and excellent hotel!

I had a two day seminar at the 5* The Bay in Camps Bay... I pre arranged that they could do Vegan food for me through the organisers... Lunch DAY1- main course arrives with cheese all over the potatoes. I spoke to the food & bev manager and asked him if his staff understood what Vegan was because I would be happy to explain it to them if not. He assured me it was a simple mistake in the kitchen that someone not realizing it was the Vegan meal added the cheese at the last minute. And yet the server knew they were delivering a Vegan meal and didn't spot it.
DAY2 - main course arrives. Melenzane type eggplant tomato stack mine had no cheese on top when compared to the vegetarian option so I began eating... Only to find after a few mouthfuls that there was cheese in the middle. Not only did they feed me cheese which had me getting ill but they promised to have the head of food and beverage contact me which hasn't happened. What to do? This from a 5* hotel ...that has international guests ...giving our country a bad rap and treating our beliefs with disrespect ...!? Needless to say I wouldnt recommend you go here if you have any type of food preferences or allergies.
