“Wonderful end to a great holiday”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

This very modern house offers great views over Canps Bay and also table Mountain behind the property. We were delighted with our room that was very well equipped and very stylish, it had a big balcony overlooking the bay and had magnificent sun sets. Katia and Brendan were so helpful and nothing was a trouble for them. Brendan made a recommendation of the Codfather restaurant which turned out to be excellent, we also eat at the Blues restaurant which was equally good.
Atholl House is only 10 minutes drive from the centre of Cape town so could not be in a better position. The breakfast room was lovely and calm with a good selection of food available. Would definitley recommend this B&B and will come back some day.

fantastic, Katia and Brendon were outstanding, going beyond their call of duty. Would recommend Atholl House as top class. The room was comfortable, clean and the breakfasts delicious. Katia brownies were to die for. The views were beautiful and the stay magical. well done on a supurb establishement.

We just got back from a 15 day trip to South Africa and Atholl House was a great starting point. We stayed 5 nights and it was a great centralized spot to explore Cape Town and its surrounding areas.

The service was great and Brendan could not have been more accomadating and helpful during our stay. The view from the room was great and it was only about a 10-15 minute walk to the bars and restaurants on the beach. Brendan was always willing to give recommendations or help with any plans and seemed genuiley invested in my wife and I having a positive experience for our first time in South Africa. This investment helped make the first part of our trip memorable.

I would recommend Atholl House to anyone and hope to return their again.

In reflecting back on our trip, I would probably stay there again, or another B&B in Camps Bay. As others have said, the setting is astoundingly beautiful, the location superb, and breakfasts delicious. Prior to arrival Brendan arranged for airport pick up, connected us with car rental, and hiking guides. The sherry in the rooms is a nice touch.

The negative, and I won't list all the small hiccups that weren't that big a deal, was that the toilet wasn't working in one of the rooms we rented for 2 of the 3 nights. It stopped working on the first night, and Katja led us to a bathroom on a different floor than the room to use. The next day (Sunday), when we returned from the day, we were greeted with a note taped to the toilet saying "sorry, do not use, plumber will come tomorrow". I was very upset that the entire day had gone by and a plumber had not come. Surely, in a country with a developed infrastructure such as SA, plumbers are available on Sundays -- perhaps at an increased rate; but if you have guests staying at a B&B paying for an en suite room, it seems to be an emergency! As the owners weren't around, I sent an email, expressing my distress at this situation, and the reply I received was, and I quote,
"your [family member] must have pressed the button [on the toilet] too hard and there is nothing I could do. The Plumber is informed an will come tomorrow.. I did show your [family member] the guest bathroom .. and I trusted this is fine.."

so not only was the bathroom still not working on the second night we were there, but the owner actually blamed my family member for this!!!! I really find this unacceptable. After my email complaint, we were shown an alternative bathroom for my family to use on the same floor as their room; but this was still inconvenient, particularly in the morning, as it required walking across the public dining room in one's robe to use the toilet. We received no compensation or acknowledgement that this was a big problem for having paid for an en suite room where the toilet wasn't working for 2 of the 3 nights of the stay.

Room Tip: the Ruby room was smaller than the Amethyst room, which was very spacious

We stayed in March, so this review is very late! Brendan and Katia were great hosts. I'm not sure who did the cooking and baking but that was great too. We stayed in the Emerald room and it was just as lovely as described in the reviews we'd read. We enjoyed both breakfast or evening drinks on the balcony and chats with the other guests. We found Camps Bay a lovely place to stay and a good base for those wanting to climb up Table Mountain, which we did. We took Brendan's advice and used the bus for a couple of days local sightseeing. Brendan had advised us on car hire and arranged it for day 4 of our stay, so then we started to travel the garden route before finishing at a game reserve. It was such and enjoyable start to our holiday that one day I'd like to return to Atholl House.

This review is a little late, but our stay was so amazing at Atholl House that I just had to put it on here! We had the most incredible stay here, it is a great place to base yourself - so close to Camps Bay, and because it is slightly higher up you get the most incredible view. Brendan and Katia couldn't do enough for us. The most hospitable team! Not only did they have great suggestions of where to go etc, they had fantastic local knowledge. We loved it so much that we actually tried to stay another night (despite having paid for our onward accommodation) but unsurprisingly, they were fully booked! Thank you so much again guys, you made the start to our wedding a very relaxing and enjoyable one!

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor - you can see more of the amazing view. Honeymoon suite only slightly...
