The Bay Atlantic was our 11th guesthouse during our extended trip of the Western Cape and despite an element of travel weariness ( and a reluctance to return to a UK winter) it lived up to its billing in all aspects.
From the moment we were greeted at the security gate - bags deposited in our room - followed by an offer of beer - we were made to feel welcomed. This welcome set the standard for the rest of our stay. That night's dinner was arranged in a trice followed by many suggestions to make the most of our stay.
We were in the pool room with its own outside sitting area which by co-incidence was close to the pool - not your usual plunge pool so common in other guesthouse but one long enough for a few strokes and it had a deep end! The room was fine - large comfortable bed - storage areas - separate sitting area in front of TV with its 5 earth bound channels - more than adequate bathroom with a large and powerful shower - plus AC. Breakfast was taken upstairs and was cooked to order which was great.
The Bay Atlantic is almost at the top of a steep hill that rises from the beach which is both a benefit and a disadvantage. The benefits are of course the sweeping views across Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean which are just stunning plus you can see the cable car at the top of Table Mountain and the 12 Apotles of which there are 17. The downside for us - not quite in the first flush of youth but very close - was that the hill was something to overcome on the way back from the restaurant. On-street parking in Camps Bay is not easy and being a very popular location the use of the car would not have helped. More a point to note than a major quibble.
Cape Town and Table Mountain are very accessible from the Bay Atlantic - just turn right and follow the road uphill to the junction and then it is largely downhill the downtown and the N2. Take the coast road and be prepared to be fustrated.
Finally we really appreciated the check out servce that means you can stay relaxed to the end of the holiday and be able to make the most of the last day. There is dedicated shower and toilet for those guests with a later flight. So after final sightseeing or lounging around the pool there is the opportunity shower and get ready for the night flight ahead.
All in alll we enjoyed the Bay Atlantic and Camps Bay and we had the added bonus of seeing 2 whales feeding just 100 metres or so from the beach which put the cherry on the top of an already iced cake. When will we see you again? The immediate answer would be soon!
