“A real boutique”
Reviewed March 11, 2008

This boutique hotel is a fantastic base for a romantic stay in Cape Town. Olaf has put a lot of effort into making this a high class location. Room no. 5 is absolutely amazing with a superb view of Cape Town and a fantastic balcony. The breakfast each morning was tasty and I can recommend the bacon for European travellers. I cannot fault the service during our stay and found the staff very helpful with lots of advice on trips and restaurants around the Cape.
The hotel is ideally placed to travel up the coast to Cape Point and also to visit Table Mountain. Try to visit Table Mountain during your stay as it is very impressive. Also bear in mind that you have to book a trip to Robben Island a few days in advance during peak times.

From the moment we arrived we were greated with the friendly Patricia and champagne!!

Our room was lovely(1) so glad we knew to book one with a balcony.

The service from Bernadette and Olaf was brilliant they organised which restaurants and bars we needed to visit.

All the staff were so eager to please and helpfull, a big thank-you to all!!

We were lucky enough to stay in Room 5 over Christmas and what a treat it was! When we arrived on Christmas Eve we were greeted with a glass of champagne. Our room was beautiful (more champagne waiting on us) and the terrace was fantastic. Bernadette made sure we were organised for dinner that evening by phoning several places to ensure we had a table for that evening. Breakfast was served on our terrace the following morning with a glass of champagne and a box of chocolates - how thoughful!!! Every day around 4.30pm canapes were delivered to our room, another nice touch. They now have a driver, Enoch, who can take you wherever you want to go - its slightly cheaper than most taxis.
The staff were so friendly (especially Bernadette and Patricia)and could not do enough for us. Earlier in our trip we had stayed at The Mount Nelson which was wonderful but the personal touches and the privacy of your own terrace is what would make me go back to The O On Kloof time and time again.

iWe stayed here for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon in December. O on Kloof was about 3 miles from the V and A Waterfront, a bit of the beaten track but a quiet location and a short stroll from the seafront.
Our first impression of the hotel was that the staff (Bernatette in particular) were exceptionally helpful, knowledgeable and had the attitude that nothing was too much trouble.

This is a chic boutique hotel, stylish and comfortable. Our only observation, was that, although on honeymoon, we stayed in room 6 which was probably the smallest the hotel has. In saying this it was fine for our stay and we did enjoy our (shared) sundeck and proximity to the gym and pool.
We didn't eat in the hotel for dinner but the breakfasts were very good.
This is a good hotel to use as a base to expore Cape Town and its environs, as long as you are aware that it is 3 miles from the centre of Cape Town.

We have stayed in many wonderful hotels, all over the world. They have varied from five-star convention hotels to small, intimate boutiques, but nowhere else have we ever received such personal attention as at O on Kloof. It was our first visit to South Africa, and we decided to stay in Cape Town for the whole eleven days of our stay; how glad we are that we did! We could not have imagined being anywhere else, and already we are planning to return next year. It would be unfair to mention anyone personally, as everyone was part of the experience - from the owner to the night porter. They have perfected such a reliable and knowledgeable team that everything runs smoothly, and you are made to feel that they have taken the trouble to remember everything about your stay - from what you like for breakfast to where you went for the day, Truly this is the only place to stay in Cape Town.

Evening meals are offered three times a week, and are very good value and of a high standard. Breakfasts, are phenomenal - if you can find room to eat all the things on offer, and there is a lunch menu available each day. The decor of the hotel is relaxing, modern and tasteful, and room 5 has a hot tub on the balcony - quite a treat! Help is at hand for all trips, taxis and restaurant suggestions - all of which are excellent; in fact if you book into this hotel you will get a total package. Thank you to everyone for being so special.

I have to say that my stay at the O on Kloof was infinitely better than I could have hoped for. My friend and I arrived after 22:00 and were warmly greeted by Patricia, the O's manager. She and the rest of the hotel staff (including Olaf, the owner) looked after our every need: "sun downers" and canapes, fantastic restaurant and sightseeing recommendations, etc.

Two stand-out features of the O -- the fantastic breakfast and the heated bathroom floors -- make the establishment seem more like a 5 star hotel rather than a "mere" guesthouse.

We'd made reservations for our stay in Cape Town at another highly rated guesthouse (which, in fact, turned out to be O on Kloof's major competitor), but the guesthouse canceled two weeks prior to our arrival owing to incomplete renovations. So, theoretically, O was our "second choice." Having said that, given our experience, I've never been so happy to have had to make due with my second choice.

Having read the reviews on this website, I had high expectations and this hotel certainly lived up to them. Olaf and his staff are to be commented for a dedicated service to their guests. The hotel is modern and stylish and offers a high level of comfort. From the moment we arrived at the hotel, we couldn't have been treated any better. We were offered champagne on arrival and made feel very welcome. Each day, canapé were delivered to our rooms when we arrived back in the hotel. The breakfast each morning was truly memorable. Far removed from the usual self-service tired fare that is offered even in most 5star hotels. Freshly individual cooked breakfasts with the freshest of ingredients beautifully presented. Bernadette, the manageress, kindly arranged tours, suggested and booked restaurants and taxis each day. Even the laundry was superior! Returned beautifully folded in tissue and wrapped with ribbon, in boxes. My teenage son thought he was in heaven with the food, the indoor pool and gym, satellite TV., free and unlimited access to the internet. We stayed in the room with the jacuzzi on the balcony and I can highly recommend it . I really cannot think of anything negative to say about this hotel. I hope some day we can return.
