“Stunning”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

If you are visiting the Cape, you must make this drive. The view is breathtaking all along the entire route. When you arrive at the lookout point, you can see for miles, and the scenery is unbelievable. I could have spent hours just staring at all the beautiful landscape.

“Scenic Driving at it's Best”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

We've taken many coastal drives but none as majestic as our trip to Cape Point. Chapman's Peak is a toll road that is under a 6 mile drive but has 114 curves. I suggest doing it on a Sunday so you can stop at the roadside markets. You should also drop by Boulders Beach to see the African Penguins.

“Because it's there”
Reviewed May 18, 2014

The one thing that will raise hackles about Chapman's Peak Drive amongst the locals (including honorary ones like the Vaalies) is the toll charge to drive along something that we've already paid for - through the nose, of course, all of us, if you'll pardon the expression.

So why pay for great views, reasonable roads, incidental rockfalls and busloads of tourists? Well, because its there and if you haven't been there lately, it should be on your list, if you can afford it. 'Nuff said.

“A wonderful drive with idyllic views - a must do.”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

I would certainly recommend doing the drive in the direction from Nordhoek to Hout Bay - you get better views. Not long after the start of the drive there is a small lay by/pull in where you get stunning views of the huge expanse of Nordhoek beach down below - also has a seat. However there are few parking pull ins from here until you reach the Peak itself.

The best viewing areas are certainly on the way down from the Peak, towards Hout Bay - quite large rest/car park areas, some with toilets. Absolutely stunning views across the water to Houts Bay - the stillness and quietness are magic and I could stay here for hours just relaxing and admiring the scenery.

The R36 toll is paid at the Houts Bay end. This a must do if you are visiting Cape Town - take your time, pull in at several parking bays and you will really appreciate what a great scenic drive this is.
