“Exceptional service!”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

The Palace of the Lost City is pure opulence. The suites are beautifully furnished and offer enough space. Apart from the the beautiful surroundings, what truely sets this hotel apart is the exceptional service being offer. From the moment you arrive to when you leave, from the hotel drivers to the floor managers; you are welcomed and acknowledged as important.
We are already planning our next trip!

Room Tip: The suites are fantastic - not only do they get their own floor manager and butler, it is refreshed...

The Palace of the Lost City is a community of splendor. Nothing like it in the world. The rooms are magnificent and overlooked the scenic African valley. The many restaurants are artfully decorated, the food is beautifully presented, the service outstanding, the area secluded, the staff dressed well and mannered and friendly. From the moment you enter the valley your breath is taken away and you feel like you're in a Shangri-La. The Palace is lavishly created with rich architecture and opulence. We took the Pilansberg Game Reserve tour adjacent to Sun City and got to touch and feed the elephants. My kids loved the baby elephant! Our room overlooked the scenic valley and we sat on the balcony savoring our cocktails and absorbing the beauty.

Negatives:
i was expecting much higher standards from 5 star hotel where i paid $500/night,there was no Gem or spa on premises, you have to take the cart to the other complex spa, internet service was of most of times, elevators out of service for the whole morning.
Positives.
Beautiful location and style, spacious and large rooms, friendly staff ,breakfast buffet is amazing and the food is good.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the pool side and higher floor.

The Palace is completely Over The Top – what fun. After 10 days of safaris we headed back to Joburg for a couple of days chilling and some golf before heading home. The Palace Hotel is huge and the premium hotel in this resort area which comprises a number of hotel properties and vacation homes. The Palace’s architecture is on a grand scale and carries an African fantasy theme. Think Atlantis in Dubai or some of those big Orlando theme hotels.
We played golf at both The Lost City and Gary Player country club – the golf is reasonably priced compared with similar quality resort courses – a golfer’s lunch is included in the fees.. Good caddies and we hired quality Mizuno clubs. Courses are challenging with plenty of wildlife – warthog, impala, mongoose, monkeys and birds (and a baby cobra but don't be put off).
Room was a very good size and well layed out with 3-seater couch, table and desk. Not a lot of cupboard or draw space if the is an issue for you. Try to get a high floor to enjoy the outlook – 4, 5 or 6.
Excellent breakfast in the palatial dining room with a lovely outlook of pools and gardens – plenty of choice and good quality – we liked the juice shots (spinach, carrot etc) and like to think it helped.
Would have liked to chill by the pools but really did not have time.
We enjoyed the staff who were friendly and helpful and gave us some insights. Good team at the salon and spa – very happy with the cut and colour.
If you venture outside the Palace you will need to take transport. Sometimes it can take time to get return transport – the curb team do try hard but at busy times it can take a while.

Room Tip: Higher floors will have a good views either over the pool area or over the lost city golf course

After three nights in Cape Town at the Taj and four nights at Kapama Karula in Hoedspruit we traveled to Sun City for three nights as someone in my group heard it was action-packed and luxurious. A word to the wise about coming here: only do so if you want crowds and loads of noise on your South African adventure. The place is completely overwhelming and over the top; the antithesis of Kapama Karula. Think Indiana Jones movie set. We stayed at the Palace of the Lost City. The value definitely doesn't compare with the amount of money spent. The food at the buffet restaurant has the same offerings at each meal. And though much is offered, like everything else at Sun City, they are more focused on quantity than quality. Although there are some lovely staff members (a handful that we encountered), we had many unpleasant experiences with the staff. To name a few: our hot air balloon safari was confirmed in the evening verbally and by letter from the hotel. We arrived in the lobby at 4:45am after getting up at 4am. We waited with two other couples in the lobby for twenty minutes. Staff saw us and didn't ask what we were doing there. After another couple from our party didn't show up we went to the front desk and asked to call their room. She asked which room we were in and explained that the balloon ride was cancelled due to high winds and that she "tried" calling us but couldn't reach us. ??? No one could walk up and knock if the phone wasn't working? Other parties were notified at 3am by phone. The woman didn't bother to come out and speak to the other group so I let them know. Very unprofessional and inconsiderate. Many times staff would wait on us never to be seen again. Most questions were answered with attitude with a look like we were crazy for asking for our bill to sign. There are many older women here that seem to have trouble being mobile. It's a miserable and sad atmosphere. Definitely not palatial. One waiter passed gas at our dinner table and walked away causing the table to gag and several members to vacate. Bees overrun all the outdoor eating areas, which is unpleasant. The casino is tiny and completely packed. Two casinos are advertised but there is one small in size. One the second night the machines were out of order due to a computer problem. The guests are from all over, but many were rude and pushy, taking away from any relaxing experience. I would recommend that anyone and everyone avoid staying here - it is exactly the opposite of all the beauty and wonder South Africa and its people have to offer. (I have several more incidents to report, but will leave it at this!)

Again the staff of The Palace seemed to leave us speechless. They sure do live up to their name. We made a spur of the moment decision to visit The Palace but the hotel was fully booked for Easter Saturday, but as many times before Sabrina Fick never fails to deliver. She offered us the Desert Suite, due to a last minute cancellation. Thank you Sabrina for making a dream come true and for giving us a once in a life time experience. The Suite, the decor, the treats, to the smallest detail, the pure luxury and our butler Andries- (was good seeing him again) were indescribable. From the in room dining to breakfast in the Crystal Court, every thing was well presented & of of a high quality & standard. All staff were helpfull & friendly and contributed to our experience. The Palace gardens & swimming pool lends a certain atmosphere that really feels like a Royal African experience. Just sad that we could only spend one night in such luxury, still so much to experience in the suite & rest of the Hotel. We feel blessed and in awe of what was done for us. Thank you Sabrina & Andries... Hope to see’ you again soon...

What an awesome hotel. We loved the hotel, the architecture is breathtaking. Management and staff were absolutely efficient and friendly. The rooms are so spacious and beautifully furnished. We have stayed at the other hotels in Sun City before, but the Palace is definitely the best. But brace yourself, the prices of everything here is very expensive from food to drinks. But the facilities, peace and tranquility is worth it. Sun City was extremely busy during the period we were there, but being at the palace, away from the hustle and bustle was worth every cent. The kids also enjoyed the lovely walks and facilties that the palave offered. The food was divine. Breakfast was an absolute feast. The variety, quality and service was exceptional. Will deifinety stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms should be pool facing, the view is spectacular. But any room at the palace makes you feel like...
