Beautiful camp site with electricity. Ablution blocks clean but in need of maintenance. Missing and leaking taps. Shower drains blocked and the hot water supply only a trickle. Poor lighting. The restaurant did not have eggs for our breakfast. The toasted cheese sandwich was good, the fries stale.
On the self drive through the park we saw lots of game including lions at their kill. The brown hyena was my first view in a game park. Unfortunately the roads are deteriorating badly with potholes in the tarred sections. The gravel roads we travelled were not too bad.
It is such a beautiful place so close to the city and accessable by car. It would be a pity if poor maintenance of the park deter visitors in the future.

We went for one night, and camped, as part of a company trip for staff families. Relatively easy to find, directions provided were good, but some signs missing on the very last stretch, which could mean people may miss turn off. It is a fantastic shady camping and chalet area, which is good protection from the hot summer days. Each camp spot seemed to have its very own tree! From the number of people packed into the resort (especially the camping) you can see it is very popular.
The reception staff were very friendly and efficient. Entrance was clean and neat, and parking area neat.
The pool area was not spectacular, and I felt that the water was a bit "yucky". Did not see the other pool by the chalets, so cannot comment if this better or not. My partner's comment is that Bakgatla is far better. However, the chalets all loooked very good from the outside, and we will return to stay in them later this year.
The ablution block was clean and smelt decent. I like the fact that the shower heads are water conserving (even though a bit frustating when you need to get out all that shampoo!). There are plenty of amentities for all. Plenty of washing up basins, and clothes washing basins.
Did not stay in tented 'chalet', but from what we saw, they look great alternative to full on camping.
From our colleagues who stayed at the resort for a little longer, said that the breakfast was varied and delicious.
We took the walking trails which we loved - amazing to be so close to animals. Lots of bird life, and if you are a twitcher, you will thoroughly enjoy sitting and watching these birdies at your feet or in the trees above you. We then got up very early and went for a game drive in the park itself. Too wonderful to describe - tons of zebra, major variety of buck (lots of babies around for the 'cuteness' factor!). We even saw a hyena on the actual road, fantastic full view for a few minutes while he watched up. Saw rhino, elephants, warthog and hippos. Try out the hides by the big dams, and enjoy a homemade sandwich while watching the birds and hippos. Must do these drives early or latish, as it gets very hot, and you will not really see much as the animals cool off in the undergrowth.
For Joburger's - its the perfect gettaway to the bush without driving to Kruger - and stop along the way in Magalies for lunch or an organic market.

We were a group of 8: my wife and I, two kids, one infant and three grand parents. We got two four bed chalets side by side and loved it. My kids did not always make the morning drives but would then love a long walk through the trails in the back which are safe from big animals but full of smaller buck. We even got to see as much as a 100 impala every night from our chalet. The breakfast were great and even got to see warthog and mongoose while eating. Just make sure to keep things closed from the baboons every afternoon around 4pm. Another note is the helpfull service over the phone when we had issues reserving online. I am a boy from Natal, so I only believe in Hluhluwe/Umfolozi for wildlife, but I am now a convert.

Room Tip: The chalets are worth it, but the safari tents look fun, we wil try them next time.

i am a memeber of the pilanesberg and go there as often as i can, yes the camp sites can get busy over thhe holiday periods, but you know what that's what camping is about, if you dont like a lot of people then you shouldn;t be there, i have always found the staff friendly and helpfull yes they had a problem with the resturant in the middle of the park, due too fires it burnt down,i should hope by now they have fixed it,problem is if people dont support the facilities they dont have the funds to then repair them! you see more animals in the pilanesberg than you will see in the kruger national park! the bird life is amazing, and it's one of the best game reserves i have ever been to. the abultion facilities are a problem at times because of people walking in and out with dirty shoes!! getting into the showers and then walking out again with the same dirty shoes on the cleaning lady's are working damn hard all the time trying to clean.

Room Tip: i have not used the chalets so can't comment yet will try them soon

We rented a 4 bed chalet at Manyane resort in mid-January. Most of the resort was empty because the South African holidays had just finished, but the rate was still around 150 euro. I was in n.35, with a large lounge, one bedroom and an upstairs loft bedroom. The place is nice, nothing fancy but clean and well equipped. We tried the restaurant, which was ok and reasonably priced. The safari was ok, 35 euro each and we saw a lot of animals, which made it definitely worth the trip from Pretoria.
