Morokolo Game Lodge
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 7, 2014

My extended family had a great time at Morokolo. Because it is a small property (4 chalets) it is peaceful and relaxing and the service you get is very personal. The managers were super obliging and went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our stay. This lodge is excellent for a family as 2 (I think) of the chalets have an upstairs loft bedroom and you have use of a large communal dining, kitchen and TV space. The game drives were great partly due to the fact that we were lucky enough to see lions and black rhino but also due to Riaan's extensive knowledge and passion for the bush. These guys are really doing it right.

The lofts are great for children up to the age of 12. We also have a camper cot for children up to the age of 2 years (no additional fee).

We had a nice stay here over 3 days (2 nights) but left a little disappointed compared to other game lodges we have stayed at. The meal on the first evening we arrived was 'brought in' and by the time we ate it, it was cold with congealed gravy. Being buffet-style, we had to heat our own meals up in the microwave! All other meals were served at the Black Rhino lodge, 5 mins down the road - not an ideal set-up. The pool, if you can call it that, is tiny, about 3m x 2m, and the thermostat on the Jacuzzi was broken and the water was practically at boiling point! Staff in the Lodge were not overly helpful but the game drives were good and our guide very knowledgeable. The rooms were to an excellent standard though.

Our pool is a splash pool and not a very big pool due to the fact that we conserve water as this is a conservation area. Also please take note that this is just to cool down in as the pool measures 4,5 m x 3m.

We experienced some diffuculties with our Jacuzzi over your stay but these have been resolved.

Morokolo staff will always try to assist where possible, if you do encounter any issues on your stay please let the staff know so they can attend to the issue right away.

Jacqui, Rosemary, Stefan and Christie made sure we had a great time and my foreign friends had a great African experience. Stefan was an amazing ranger and he went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience and saw as much on the game drives as possible.

With only 4 rooms in each camp we are well equipped to adjust the itinerary to suit guests needs when all 4 rooms are booked for one group. We also have contacts with some African musicians and dancers, so if you would like to have some authentic African entertainment ask the reservationist when making your booking.

We loved the staff, the amenities, the atmosphere. Everything was lovely, relaxing and enjoyable. We especially loved the free childcare so we could enjoy the bush safari on our own. We would have stayed longer if we could have.

The location was stunning, the wildlife was exceptional and the welcome we got from the managers was incredibly warm and genuine ... a super venue so close to Johannesburg. Highly recommended for anyone going to SA.

And we had great weather too! But sometimes it can be quite hot this time of year, and rain is scarce so every drop is precious!

We loved the Visit to Morokolo and wish we could have stayed longer. Our room and game drives were fantastic. Meals we great as well. All of the staff were more than eager to please. My only complaint is the splash-pool was disgusting thus my very good rating. Pool water was nearly green with a sediment covered bottom with bugs and leaves floating on the surface. it was very hot during our stay and it would have been nice to get in some cool water.

Luckily we managed to get the pool sorted out, a small problem with the pump and some heavy rains turned the pool green in one day...

A real treat for my daughter and myself. Needed to get away for a rest and how wonderful it was. Nature, animals, the lodge and peace, just what we wanted. We did the bush walk that was a real highlight. GO!
