“Disappointment”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

What a disappointment to arrive at what is considered to be one of the highlights of Upington's culinary scene, after booking a few weeks prior, to find that they were closed for stocktake on a Thursday evening, and hadn't had the courtesy to let us know.

“Could be great but needs some work”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

There aren't many choices in Upington and Le Must is recommended in guidebooks and it looks like the nicest place to eat in town. We stayed in Upington twice (before and after a trip to the Kalahari) and ate here both times - it was the food that brought us back, the service made us seriously consider going somewhere else.

The first time we went we were offered warm bread which had a cheese and bacon filling before our starter. It was lovely. The second time we went we weren't offered anything. The first time we went we had to pay extra for vegetables, the second time they were included in the price. Both times a number of starters and mains were unavailable and we weren't told until we asked for them. The choice was limited.

It was cold, so take a jumper, and the music was really bad - some of it was dance, some of it was pop, none of it is what you want in a nice restaurant. You don't get serviettes unless you ask for them and we had to take cutlery from another table. You can take your own wine so that's a plus as there are some great vineyards nearby.

It has a new owner and if they get the service right it will be a great restaurant. What they serve up is fantastic but how they do it isn't.

“Business dinner”
Reviewed June 22, 2013 via mobile

Very disappointing. A candle per table and no lights on. On arrival we were stopped and asked if we were paying by voucher - as this is not accepted!!! when questioned as to why there were no lights on, we were told that it creates "ambience" - certainly does not make it possible to read a menu. Then to add insult to injury, we were told that the restaurant "WAS LOW ON FOOD" so there are only 3 choices!!!! we left immediately and will not be returning.

“Fine dining in the Northern Cape”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

Every now and again, due to a lot of dining out, your palate becomes stale and unimpressed. When on business a while ago, I was taken to Le Must in Upington. Well what a treat, usually I find oxtail to rich, but the oxtail served at Le Must with pawpaw and lime juice on the side was a sheer taste sensation! The oxtail was slow cooked soft, not fatty or oily and with the accompanyment of the pawpaw and live juice one of the best tasting meals I had in a while.

Definately a Must when in Upington!!!!
