We visited the Namaqua National Park and drove the Skilpad route. There are carpets of orange flowers to the left and right of the road. This is one of the best places to view the phenomena of the flowers. The Skilpad route is not very long so you can spend time in the park under the shade of the big trees or go for a walk. There are two walking trails, Skilpad Walking Trail (4 km) and Korhaan Walking Trail (6 km) Pack a pick nick basket their food service is extremely slow.
Park is open till 18h00. Make accommodation bookings at SANParks.

Carpets of flowers everywhere!!
The circle is not very long so you can spend half a day in the park.

This park is always a wonder of the beauty of nature. So many flowers in all colors in a very dazzling landscape is nowhere to be seen in this world.A bumpy road, but worth the trip. Amazing and you leave the park bedazzled. A must in August/September. Food service is slow, nearly none existent. Bring your own pick nick.

We stayed in the divers huts at Noup just South of Port Nolloth. It is a very beautiful area and the quaint cottages on the sea front are a real treat. We then travelled through the Namaqua National Park down to Strandfontein. This is a spectacular coastline and we would have like to stop at one of the campsites if we had had the time. The flower season was just beginning and we saw a splendid display. Although some parts of the road was not in a great condition it was well worth the visit.

Skilpad has 4 extremely well appointed chalets set in the midst of the spring flowers, which are magnificent at this time of year (August). The area surrounding the chalets is quite wooden and remote, with many very interesting birds around. We managed to see the Clapping Lark - a first for us.
It is a truly memorable place.
