“So peaceful!”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

We had a wonderful weekend here, the setting is beautiful and so peaceful. We had a very comfortable, spacious room with a lot of attention aid to detail. Kids room was also very spacious and comfortable. The room was very clean, tea and coffee was topped up at night. The food was home cooked and delicious with plenty to cater for everyone's taste. All the staff were exceptionally friendly. We would love to go back for a longer weekend!

We stayed with the family in a 6 sleeper cottage by the name of Sycamore in the Hulala Lakeside Cottage and what a pleasant stay. The cottage overlooks the magnificent Da Gama dam. Peaceful and quiet with lots of bird life for the keen photographer. Centrally situated between White River and Hazyview, the access to Kruger Park was a 30km drive, which was not bad at all. Overall we had a good stay, comfortable cottage with more than you bargain for...

I thought I was being a bit critical of the place but most of my cricisms are repeated by other reviewers. Great location, friendly welcome by gate guard, Ok rooms, uninspiring meals. The rooms are comfortably furnished with a comfortable bed and nice pillows (I always take my own pillow). A bar fridge is needed, along with a mat under the dresser chair and rubber or felt pads on the cupboard doors which are spring loaded and tend to slam shut, which disturbs neighbours as every sound can be heard through the walls. Our bathroom was poorly laid out as the door opens in front of the basin , and the shower could do with a good clean. The one day we had set aside to relax at the pool turned out to be grey and miserable so we were restricted to our rooms, and guess what- the only 2Tv channels were sports round-up and fothcoming attractions on M-net! Nobody could sort this out. Food was tasty but only just better than institutional cooking, definitely not fine dining. On our second night I thought the vegetables were left over from the previous night, but they couldn't have been as they were barely hot and virtually raw. Seeing one of the waiters using her finger to break up the lumps in the sugar pot also put me off having tea or coffee. This is the first place I've been where a waiter does not offer to pour tea or coffee at breakfast. Some of the best holidays I've had are at places without fancy facilities but with fantastic service, and Hulala falls way short in this area.

What a peacefull place to spend the weekend, I stayed in a room opposite the lake the place is so beautifull, the people are so friendly, our room was so clean and comfortable the fireplace in the evening coz that weekend was little chilly was the cherry on top. The guards at the gates are so friendly. The breakfast was awesome that day sat outside sunny day what a stunning view of the lake and the garden is kept so neat. Later in the evening you see the monkeys and the meerkats strolling around I love that.

We spent a night at Hulala Lakeside Lodge on the way to Nelspruit for business. The location is lovely. We were welcomed by friendly staff, our suite was comfortable and well equipped with a beautiful view of the lake. Dinner and breakfast were homely meals. We had a discount voucher and I felt that the price we paid was fair value for what we got, I would not feel the same had we paid the full price.

Hulala is set in a beautiful location. Walter the gate guard is fabulous...however the kitchen urgently needs the input of a qualified chef. The 'locals' comandeered the pub on Saturday afternoon/evening ostensibly to watch the rugby. They got louder and more obnoxious by the hour which culminated in the patrons 'losing' one of their mates at about 10h00pm. A search party was launched for fear the person had landed in the dam! Service was erratic and not of the standard I expect of a 4 star operation.

Room Tip: If you are at the Lake close the windows facing the hill as there is a constant stream of traffic wh...

Many thanks for the review posted on Trip Advisor , your comments have been addressed to improve the various areas of hospitality.
We are at present busy with training and the areas of service and the kitchen are being addressed with an outside trainer with new menu's and combinations being introduced.
The "locals" are in fact homeowners on the adjacent estate and I have written to them to advise them that their behaviour was not what one would expect and have advised the staff on duty on that night that in circumstances like that I should have been called down to the hotel.
The traffic noises from the road are not normally a problem but have been compounded by he "stop and go" which increases the one way flow of traffic at a time
Kind regards

The locoation of the lodge is awesome. Set right on the banks of Da Gama dam, it is a tranquil spot. The security gaurd at the entrance gate is exceptionally friendly. But that's where it ends.

Once we checked in we asked the person that helped us (might have been one of the managers) where our room was, his answer was simply that he had no idea!

The rooms were pleasant enough but it was quite obvious that there is no supervision during maintenance. For example there was paint on the shower door glass. The wall behind the bath dried steammarks on them so the wall
S had obviously not been washed in ages. The turn downs Ibelieve werenot satisfactory. The beds were turned down for the evening, the mosquito nets were not and with the units based so close to the water there were a lot of mozzies around.

The main area was not bad. However the pool was green and not completely filled.

Dinner was interresting. Our waiter (Daisy) was good. The manager was around but she did not intruduce herself and the only time she was at our table was when she brought our main course to the table. The meat (roasted leg of lamb) was tough and taste less and the veggies looked like it might have been frozen veggies. We didn't stick around for dessert.

Breakfast was much the same. When we enquired about the chef's special it was revealed to be nothing more than good old baked beans! Like in the rooms, there is no supervision at all all. Most of the wall hanging we crooked. Might not have noticed it but most of them are placed right under perfectly square light fittings!

All in all we were very disappointed. The one up we had before breakfast was that our car had been washed but then on check out the managers did not even ask if we enjoyed our stay or if we were comfortable.

We will certainly not go back there!
