The lcaotion itself makes this hotel. Right by the gates into South Kruger, with some wildlfe walking around the ground and birds in the trees. The lodge feel adds to authrtic safari atmoshphere whilst maintaingin the standards of this chain of hotels. Hearing Hippos when in the pool was interesting! Breakfast and dinner were fine a good range on the buffet. Breakfast boxes when going on the game drives thoguht left a little to be desired.
Cannot wait to return hopeuflly soon and soak up more of pure africa

Having emailed in advance and asked for a refurbished room to be paid for which was acknowledged and agreed to by the hotel manager, we were very disappointed that the hotel did not have an upgraded room available and were given what we believed to be an unacceptable excuse. However, the hotel staff were themselves excellent and the room we were given was basic but adequate. After all, you do not go to Kruger Park to stay in the hotel room. You go for the safari and surrounding beauty. The hotel is indeed in a great position, right next to the entrance to Kruger Park and monkeys and other wildlife can be found on your veranda at any time day or night. It's proximity saves a further long journey to the park, especially when getting up at stupid-o-clock to go on a morning safari. But it is so worth getting up early because it is hard to describe the thrill of seeing animals in their natural habitat and they are at their best early in the morning. The viewing gallery overlooking the park is fantastic and just sitting there, drinking coffee or a beer, is a most relaxing pasttime. The food at the hotel is adequate and we found there was plenty of it. The only trouble we found is that there are still renovations going on around the hotel and the smell similar to "creosote" pervaded our nostrils and actually made me feel quite ill. But the ambience of the hotel is good and the layout is very in tune with the nature reserve it surrounds. Would I go again? Yes, but only if the renovations were finished and the rooms all refurbished to the same standard.

Room Tip: Check there are no renovations going on at the time of your visit and ask for an refurbished room.

Thank you for highlighting our unique location for the perfect safari getaway and posting your comments on TripAdvisor.

I apologise for the fact that your request was not fulfilled and I have discussed this with the entire TEAM. However, I am pleased that this did not deter you from having a fabulous time on your game drives and while sipping on sundowners on the viewing deck.

We are in the process of renovating our property as this is necessary in order for us to maintain our standards of exceeding GUEST expectations. I am happy to advise that the room renovations have been completed.

The TEAM hopes that you had a pleasant trip back home to the UK.

We stayed at this hotel on a trip to Kruger NP. The decor and facilities in the room are very basic. They were not particularly well maintained.
The staff's attitude was rather lackadaisical and nonchalant.
The location of this hotel is its biggest plus as it is only metres away from Kruger Gate.
While the dinner buffet spread was large, the taste and quality of food was very average. Sometimes, we were served leftover food and dishes from the previous days' meals.
During the dinner buffets, we felt that the restaurant staff were reserving seats for certain guests even though they appeared available to us.

Following 6hr drive from Jo'Burg we arrived the hotel. We unloaded the bags from the car ourselves and having checked in at reception we were then informed we were staying in a chalet for which we would have to drive to - it was left to us to put the luggage back in the car - not a good start. The chalet was clean and spacious and well equipped. We had both supper and breakfast in the Lapa restaurant. Supper was ok and the choice for breakfast was good. The staff were courteous throughout but lacked the personal touch - I agree with a fellow traveller that they need to concentrate on stepping up their customer service.

Room Tip: By choosing a chalet you are able to self cater if you wish.

Dear J W

I am extremely sorry that you were not assisted with your baggage on arrival; it is standard that our GUESTS are attended to by a porter. Offering the best GUEST service is of utmost importance and I can assure you that this will be addressed immediately.

The chalets are a lovely alternative when staying in the bush and your satisfaction regarding those is pleasing.

I will be talking to the entire TEAM about your concerns about ‘personal touch’ and aim to rapidly improve this area.

Thank you so much for your feedback and I hope you had a safe trip back to the UK.

We stayed at the Kruger Gate with a tour group and really enjoyed it. The hotel is very close to the park and has all the comforts and ammenities you could ask for. The place had the feel of a wilderness resort, with rooms spread out through various wooden walkways. Our room was large, comfortable, and quiet. There's a viewing platform, nice pool, and many comfortable public areas. We hd the buffet dinner, which featured a wide variety of offerings and was quite good. The buffet breakfast was excellent and I really appreciated the fact that this was the only hotel we stayed in in South Africa that served crispy bacon. There was free wifi service, which worked most of the time. The atmosphere, layout, location, and comfort made this hotel a real winner. Of the six hotels where we stayed on our tour, this was our favorite. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

My review of this mixed is a bit of a mixed bag after spending 4 nights there ..... It is extremely close to Paul Kruger gate into Kruger Park, there isn't one closer on this route. Nice furnishings with lovely wood and beaming throughout and ambience of layout, however ambience of the hotel as a whole lacking. Reception personnel although friendly enough in greeting proved to be rather unfriendly and lacking for frontline presonnel. Lapa lovely area. Meals fine and reasonable selection. I feel I have to mention Duty Manager Restaurant; Johannes, at this point, what a credit to the hotel, always helpful, polite and smiling, unlike many of his colleagues ! Also, Jerry, one of the waiters, what a pleasure he is ! Majority of the others .. well ... ! I just found the hotel lacking that special "something" and this was due to many of the personnel whom appeared somewhat miserable and unfriendly. I found the most friendly of the lot the security and the cleaning personnel par from Johannes mentioned above. They have an ideal location and a lovely layout, so much potential; yet they need a revamp of the personal touch and general manners. However for a short stay and if you intend to spend the better part of it in the Park and not get overly involved in the hotel then it will suffice just fine, I would recommend it being aware of the above. Johannes should train the staff, would make a world of difference !

The hotel has a very good location, next to Krugers Park and 1.5 h driving time from Nelspruit Airport. Encouraged by the hotel web site we requested airport transfer by e-mail, but our e-mails remained unanswered until our South African friend called the the hotel directly and insisted on a response. Pick up and transfer were then ok.
When being in the hotel we learned that one of the persons who takes care of booking the transfers and tours is Ellias, who is unfriendly and not helpful. Information about the transfers, safaris, and tours may be easier obtained from Johan, a representative of Echo Safaris, whose desk is in the same room.
Front desk staff is generally not helpful. At check-in, we received no information about the facility. It was even a problem to get two keys for a double room. Full payment for the whole stay was required at check-in ! The front desk only theoretically offers foreign currency exchange. We tried to exchange 50 US dollars throughout our stay but they never had enough local currency for the exchange. The front desk was not able to help us with printing boarding passes. We had also problems with other staff members, from receiving incorrect information at the bar to waiting for 45 minutes for a check at lunch. In general, most young staff members in the hotel are not operative and not friendly. The Lapa restaurant (dinner) is a positive exception.
The hotel is a big facility with a big garden (with monkeys and few impalas), tennis area, minigolf, a very small pool, a pool bar (open until 7pm) with a view on the Krugers Park, and a small souvenir shop, which also sells water (6.50 ZAR per 500 ml bottle) etc. Purchases in the shop cannot be charged to the room.
Our room was ok, with a flat screen tv, kettle, safe, reading light, two suitcase racks. The bed was comfortable.
The bathroom was nicely arranged with a big walk-in shower and features of the history of Krugers Park. All light switches were located in one place what was very convenient. The closet was very small.
The doors did not open with an electronic key when they were locked from the inside (red light flashes, as if the key is not working). There was no Internet connection in the room.
A computer with free internet access, but no printer, was available in lobby area. The free WiFi in the lobby was sometimes working, but most of the time it was not.
Cleaning was ok, except the "balcony" window was once left open by a staff member who entered the room while we were away.

Room Tip: Top floor seems better (the bottom floor is below front desk level)

Dear Szynka

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on TripAdvisor. GUEST feedback is important to us and plays a big role in the improvement of our hotel.

I am extremely sorry that the service you received was disappointing and I can assure you that I will be addressing this issue and implementing training where necessary.

Being located in the bushveld it is not uncommon for the internet to have intermittent signal. We are investigating a number of options to ensure that this does not occur again.

There is nothing better than sitting on the viewing deck with a cold beverage whilst some Impala and monkeys roam the gardens. I am glad that you had the opportunity to experience this. Furthermore, I would like to thank you for your comments regarding the comfortable beds and wide variety of in room facilities.

Thank you once again and I hope that you had a safe trip back to Warsaw.
