The park is fantastic. The area is sub tropical and so unspoilt. There is also some awsome diving in the area

“nice park”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

The Isimagaliso Wetland Park is a nice park to visit when you stay in Saint Lucia. Before we had been at Kruger NP and in Swasiland, so our focus was more or less the nature and maybe seeing some black rhinos. We saw some animals like giraffes, zebras, deers and so on. Lukily we saw also two rhinos far away and I think these are black rhinos, as they were much darker than the others we had seen so far. The park is beautiful, but there are a lot of tourists and you are never alone. But still I can recommend this place.

“Nature at its best”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

Loved the loop roads on the way to Cape Vidal. (Loop roads are dirt roads to take as scenic detours to Cape Vidal) the best one for us was the 18km one just as you leave Cape Vidal.

“Beautiful Park”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

We spent an afternoon self-driving from St Lucia up to Cape Vidal with many stops along the way for photo ops and a picnic lunch. This is a beautiful park with a good deal of wildlife. We saw impala, zebra, waterbuck, hippos, monkeys, spiders, kudu, crocs, warthog, bushbuck, duiker, buffalo and many different bird species. Don't miss stopping at the various lookout
points and bird hides. Cape Vidal is a beautiful beach and had we not arrived quite late, it would have been warm enough for a swim, even in late May. A half-day trip was too short for us as we did not get to drive all the routes we had hoped, next time I would definitely make it a full-day excursion. iSimangaliso is a private park so note that Wildcards are not accepted.

“It has everything, you must go. Now!”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

I have travelled widely around South Africa and am never failed to be amazed by the natural beauty of the country and the sheer variety of what is on offer. However, iSimangaliso is right up there and has everything, particularly when combined with the nearby Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve. We spent four nights staying in St Lucia town and during this time did the hippo and croc tour, ocean voyage (spotting dolphins), visited Hluhluwe and spent Christmas eve turtle spotting! I cannot think of another area in South Africa that has so much to offer the tourist all within easy travelling distance and the scenery is stunning. I was also very impressed with the KZN parks board who seemed to maintain the parks and facilities very well.
Our only low point was that we stayed in St Lucia town which is a dump. I would suggest that this is a place where it is certainly worth paying the extra money to stay somewhere smart and catered so that you can avoid the town, and particularly the restaurants!
As a tourist I would recommend a week in the area combining beach, sea and game viewing, juts make sure that you have plenty of space on the memory card of your camera!
