Santa Lucia Guesthouse
Ranked #6 of 31 St Lucia B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence

We visited St Lucia for just one night and were very fortunate to be recommended this guesthouse. As all the other reviewers have said , the owners & staff cannot do enough for you . They are very helpful & informative without being intrusive , and made excellent suggestions with regard to restaurants & what to do in the area. The rooms were spotlessly clean & every need was catered for. We only had breakfast , which was extremely good , before moving on towards Kruger. This is definitely amongst the best guest houses we have ever stayed in & would have no hesitation in recommending it to other travellers.

We stayed at this B&B for about a week and can only say that it was one of the best, most relaxing and most enjoyable travel experiences we've ever had. The owners and the staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the area and things to do, yet not intrusive. The apartment was spotless, safe and well equipped, and the breakfast is way beyond what one would get at a typical B&B. All in all, a superb B&B experience.

We came here for two nights on our way from Kruger to Durban. The breakfast was one of the best we ever had in South Africa (fresh fruits, eggs etc.). You can safely park your car on the property and and you can also use the pool any time of your stay (they switch the light on if you're planning to go for a dip at night) anf give you lots of information on what to do.

Can only reiterate the comments made by previous reviewers. From the time we booked Rika was so helpful, suggesting that as we were staying for 5 nights we should have the cottage room which had a kitchen and dining area. Rika, Francois and Martie are three of the nicest people we have ever met on our our travels (4th visit to SA) and so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they are so knowledgeable about their country and surrounding area - we especially enjoyed the discussions we had with Francois - anything this guy doesn't know isn't worth knowing! Their home is very traditional, the breakfasts are awesome and we just loved the pancakes. Highlight of our stay was their staff singing the national anthem to us in Zulu - gave me goose bumps. Would love to go back but don't think we ever will - too many other places on my Bucket List to visit - but would definitely recommend to all ages.

Room Tip: Cottage garden is very roomy and ideal if you are staying 4\5 days.

We stayed here for just two nights, one full day during our 16 night trip to South Africa and how we wish it had been longer. There is so much to do in the area but we packed a lot into our day, with a long coastal walk before lunch and a wonderful game drive to Cape Vidal in the afternoon. One of the reasons we managed to see so much in a short time was the enthusiastic advice given by hosts Rika and Francois on any and all things - activities, restaurants, our onward trip. In many years of travelling all over the world these wonderful people are amongst some of the most generous and accommodating owners we have met. They really care about whether guests are happy and have an obvious pleasure in meeting international travellers which resulted in some really long and interesting conversations about family life, South Africa, etc.

The guesthouse is charming, in beautiful grounds and the kids enjoyed the pool. Breakfast on the terrace was a delight and one of the best we came across. The style here is old-fashioned, not boutique, but with bags of charm and atmosphere. We were sorry to leave so soon and highly recommend Santa Lucia and St Lucia itself, which has a more lively vibe than a lot of other places we visited and many good restaurants.

I totally disagree with the recent review that says the decor is "tired". Santa Lucia is decorated wonderfully, with an African theme in every room. For the record we are a married couple in our late 20s.

Rika and Francois are the perfect hosts, and all of their staff are warm, friendly and professional. Every morning of our 4-night stay we were served a delicious breakfast and given some bites to take away for lunch. Our hosts were SO helpful each morning, printing out maps for us and giving us lots of hints and tips; they are so passionate about the stunning area they live in.

The rooms are delightful and full of lovely touches. The bathroom products are great as are all the little eats, which are replenished each day next to the kettle.

I cannot recommend this guest house enough - I have lived and traveled all over the world and have never encountered such friendliness.
