Nice rooms, good food, very friendly owners. Loved it! They were very helpful in giving us info on the area and let us stay until 1:00pm the next day so we could shower before our flight back to the US.

We stayed in the Buffalo room snd found the decor a bit 'tired' but we had been very spoilt by some of the other accommodation that we had stayed in over the two weeks. We spent 2 nights here to relax and chill out after a very busy 2 weeks away. It was in a great location and the beaches were beautiful. Gisela was a great host and couldn't have been more helpful with advice on what to do and where to go, she even booked us on the hippo and croc boat trip and lent us a cool bag, freezer blocks, beach towels and snorkels for our trip to Cape Vidal!

My husband and I recently returned from a two month trip to Southern Africa. Saint Lucia and Maputaland Guest House were our second stop on the trip and one of our best memories. Gisela and Peter are lovely hosts. We spent 4 nights here and could have stayed longer. There is so much to do in the surrounding area and though the town is small there is a good selection of restaurants. Gisela helped us book our tours right when we arrived which was lovely because instead of spending vacation time wandering around town trying to book activities she had it all done for us in 10 minutes. They are very welcoming hosts and made us feel comfortable. The rooms were quiet and ours was outdoor by the pool, which I really liked. The breakfasts were fantastic, with a great selection. This is the type of place I love to visit again!

Room Tip: The rooms outside over looking the pool were lovely.

My wife and I were travelling with two other couples, and spent one night at Maputaland.Gisela and Peter the owners were very welcoming, and spent time with us explaning whats what in the area. The guest house is very well placed for exploring the St.Lucia area, and you can walk to the small town. The rooms are adequate if dated. In one of our friends rooms the airconditioning did not work properly. The swimming pool is nice and is well used.We only ate breakfast there, and found there was a reasonable choice of cerals, fruit etc.
We have stayed in many better B&B's but the value for money overall was reasonable.

Room Tip: All rooms face the swimming pool, and are adjoined. It is hot in the summer therefore need to make sur...

We stayed three nights at Maputaland. Gisela and Peter welcomed us warmely and informed us about the surroundings and activities and helped us with booking tours (a boat tour and a guided tour in iSimangaliso Wetland Park). They are very nice and helpful people. The guest house itself did not feel very well-cared and clean comparing to our previous stays in South Africa. We didn't enjoy that their pets (two dogs and two cats) were allowed to be everywhere, even in the breakfast area, although they were rather wellbehaved. Everyone is not so fond of the smell of dog from the chair cushions and dog and cat hair everywhere... We also felt that we stayed to close with the owners, since they also used the public area as their own private social area. We stayed during the new year and since all restaurants were closed on New years day, Gisela was very kind to offer to cook dinner (pasta) for us and another Swedish family, which was really appreciated. The room (family room) was okay and also the breakfast.

My wife and I spent 3 nights 5/28 - 31 at this guest house. Gisela and Peter did an outstanding job of making our first experience in SA be one of the most memorable. The guest suites are located on a wing of the house and have external doors fronted by a covered walkway. On our first night, Peter organized a braii (BBQ) for all of the guests. It was a wonderful "ice-breaker" activity. They had a refrigerator with soft drinks and beer as well as a bar with an honor system for you to mark on a clipboard on what you used. They were warm and inviting hosts, who made you feel comfortable and welcome in the common areas of their home.

Gisela suggested and made reservations for a great tour of Isimangaliso wetlands park (a World Heritage site about a 10 minute drive away). The guide came to the guest house to pick us up for the tour. She made reservations for excellent hippo and croc boat tour, which we walk to in about 15 minutes.

Gisela picked us up (for a very reasonable rate) at the Richards Bay airport (90 minutes away), and took us to our next destination. We truly felt that I was leaving newly made friends when we left.

Room Tip: I didn't personally see the inside of other rooms. We stayed in the Buffalo Room, which was ver...

We booked our holiday on recommendation from a previous visitor. What a great place Maputaland Guest House turned out to be. Before we left home, we had been emailing Gisela and Peter (Our Hosts) to ask the many questions that we had about our holiday. They answered all of them and said don't worry ask as many as you like. From that time we knew that we had made the right choice of destination. Some people only come to St Lucia as a stop over for a few days on their way to other places in South Africa. What a treat they are missing. We stayed there for 2 weeks and were overjoyed that we had done so. In that one area you can go, Whale Watching. Deep Sea Fishing, Diving, Snorkelling, Sunbathing on the Beach, Game Drives, Hippo & Croc tours, Canoeing, See Cultural Villages, Shopping, Wildlife conservation centres, Zulu traditions and many many more. One person said to us that there is no where else in the world that you can go whale watching and see the big 5 animals all in one day. Maputaland Guest House is a welcoming and restful place to stay with Great Hosts & Great Food. Gisela & Peter had a wealth of knowledge on everything in the area, from places to visit to places to eat and trips to go on. This area is a great place to visit and we felt at home both in the Guest House and out in the whole area. 3 things you will need for your trip. Car, Camera and Binoculars. We would go back tomorrow and love it just as much. Remember this is not a 2 day stopover, this is a 2 week destination.

Room Tip: They are all good
