“Very good stop in route to Blyde River Canyon and/or Kruger NP”
Reviewed July 1, 2011

We stopped at Pilgrim's Rest, as part of a day of driving the Panorama route around Blyde River Canyon. In addition to the many good stops along this route, drivers can make the 17km detour, west of Graskop on R533 to Pilgrim's Rest, a sleepy, historic old mining town which has been quite well preserved or at least restored, allowing visitors a glance of what this community resembled a 100 years earlier.

We really enjoyed out stop here and felt Pilgrim's Rest was worth the detour drive and the 45 minutes we spent here prior to going back to Graskop to finish the Panorama route.

If you've time during your South Africa trip and are spending some time in the Blyde River Canyon area then we recommend this detour to visit Pilgrim's Rest for 45-60 minutes or longer if you want to linger and have a drink in this old-timy stop.

“Quaint town”
Reviewed September 12, 2010

This is a lovely little town set at the foot of Robbers Pass. We enjoyed walking down its one street, full of shops and restaurants. Very much worth a visit.
