“Great Lodge Balcony Views!”
Reviewed February 27, 2014 via mobile

Braii on the balcony, watching the sun go down over the mountains. What a relaxing three nights, jacuzzi, pool and restaurant on site. Very central to visit attractions in surrounding area. Must visit this place for a third time!!

Arrived at around 4pm on Friday afternoon. Check in was quick and painless. Was very surprised as to how massive the resort is. Our cabin was surprisingly spacious and extremely well equipped. We had seriously over packed. Lots of plug sockets available. Internet reception is a little iffy but if you hang off the balcony of your cabin you might get an EDGE signal.

We went to try the restaurant on site on Friday night but with very low expectations due to all the bad reviews on Tripadvisor. Restaurant was very empty (just the way we like it). Service wasn't slow at all. We didn't want to order anything too demanding in case it was really bad so we ordered a hamburger and the hake. It wasn't 5 star food but it was better than expected. Drinks were also very good.

Second night we decided to try the restaurant again, mostly because you just cannot navigate the surrounding roads to Pilgrims Rest and Graskop in the dark without putting your life in serious danger. The potholes and state of the roads are shocking. This has nothing to do with Crystal Springs though. Just something to bear in mind. Anyway, we sat overlooking the heated pools and ordered the fillet and the trout. It was exceptionally good. So I don't know what happened to the restaurant but it is seriously worth going to now. What's nice about the resort is that you have everything there. You don't really feel the need to leave, which was good in our case because the fog was so bad we couldn't even find god's window or blyde river canyon. We left having done no sight seeing and still felt like we had a fantastic break.

It also has a shop on site which stocks everything you might have forgotten to bring. Also sells meat etc for having a braai.

Just returned from Crystal Springs from a weekend getaway with a group of friends. Very serene place away from the rat race. Spectacular and gorgeous views. Ideal place to get away from the city life and take time out away from the big city lights. The lodges are just ok, full kitchen and fairly clean and serviced daily. There's a small beauty spa to get pampered at the clubhouse which also offers 2 small jacuzzi's and a heated pool.there's also a steam room and sauna. There's another bigger heated pool by the restaurant where you can enjoy drinks. The food at the restaurant was terrible though! We had to return the pizza's because they were stale and had a foul smell. Other than that it is a beautiful place to relax and recharge.
Driving tip: if traveling from JHB/PTA use the Dullstroom road and not via Lydenburg. The Lydenburg route has potholes the size of swimming pools. Don't travel in the dark as it gets very misty and there's animals on the road occasionally. The weather changes 20 times in a day so pack for enough for the unpredictable weather. One minute it's warm the next very chilly.

Room Tip: If in a group seeking multiple lodges, request lodges 29&30. They're right at the end and no...

We stayed at Crystal springs for two nights but by the first day, we realized that we should have stayed for a week! The Lodge is set on a beautiful piece of land and is laid out in a way that you do not feel claustrophobic... the only down fall is that the chalets are a distance from the main reception and activities and one needs to use the car to drive to reception but we decided that this could quickly be overcome by taking out mtb bikes with us next time to get around. The chalets are lovely and have everything that a person would need (including a wood burning fire). Each chalet is on the edge of the cliff and the views are fantastic as well as being able to see some wildlife at night (Zebra and Kudu).
The only real disappointment was the restaurant and both times that I ate there turned out to be a disaster - the food is not great and the staff requires additional training on how to serve and take orders.
My tip is to bring your own food and bring cash as the closest shops and ATM's for cash is 27km's away in Graskop. Our next trip to Crystal springs is planned already for November 2014!

Superb views over the gorge and great walking trails made for an enjoyable weekend getaway. With the changeable weather and spells of thick mist, it is advisable to pack warm clothing and rain gear. We found the units to be clean and well stocked and the complementary firewood was a bonus. Beware the baboons and monkeys!

We has a lovely long weekend at Crystal Springs. It's location is great for touring around the area.
We were completely unaware that there is a game reserve and wonderful hiking trails on the property. We will definately go prepared next time to make use of these facilities. The chalets are very clean and comfortable with lovely views. We will definately book there again
