“Comfortable resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

We stayed in a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom chalet and were very comfortable. The decor is very old fashioned and in need of renovating and bringing to the 21st century. The kitchen cupboards and drawers were old and stiff to open and close.
The check in was pleasant and efficient. The house keeping staff were very good, friendly and I loved that they washed all the dishes.
The unit was very clean.
We had a very comfortable stay and were happy that we could get internet (only in the lobby) and it was only 10 rand per day.
The best part for us was the lovely swimming pool and area which were very clean and well maintained and the water in one of the pools was warm, fed by springs. Lovely.
we had a few blackouts (no electricity) due to thunderstorms, nearly every evening but we didn't mind. The staff organised tea and coffee in the lounge.
There was a resident barn owl which we liked seeing.
We didn't see any hippos during our week stay.
I feel that some money needs to be invested in renovating the chalets and maybe a washing machine would be welcome as there are many families who visit here.
we would love to bring our family here from the UK as there were lots of things for little children and lovely tennis courts
.There was a gym but we didn't see it or use it.
We didn't eat at the restaurant as it was full of coach loads of people but we didn't mind as we had a kitchen and there were good restaurants nearby.

Room Tip: We were in 44 A which was on the Sabie river side.

Lets start with the good. The venue and situation of the resort is great. Also the booking in procedure upon arrival was good. Unfortunately that is where the good ends. We must have communicated at least 15 to 20 times with the resort to ensure that our bookings were made and paid for. Various calls to them to call back remained unanswered. The food was average (taste wise) but the serving arrangements were atrocious. I was horrified to find that in a 4 star resort I did not have a fridge in my room or complementary water (especially in temp that average into the high 20's). The technology in the rooms ito TV sets and wi-fi really needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. Secondly I was not impressed that I had to make coffee on the floor of my room as the kettle cords are not long enough to plug in otherwise. The standard of coffee also left much to be desired and when a resort goes as far as to put a cheap coffee in an more expensive coffee container - it leaves me stone cold. I am not a coffee connoisseur but I sure know the difference between a local coffee (that is normally served in a tin) and a coffee that is served in a bottle - it is sacrilege, like de-cantering a box wine into a good wine bottle. I requested ice one evening only to be told that there was no ice and that they would be sending to town for some - still waiting! The resort has no idea how to serve large groups of people with absolutely no processes in place when serving meals and teas. I see that the positive comments on this resort are mainly from the chalet's which I must admit did look like they had been refurbished recently - my complaints are from the hotel side.

Room Tip: Take a bathing suit the pool is well maintained and a pleasure to swim in.

Sanbonani holiday resort close to Hazyview is an excellent and luxurious getaway close to the Kruger National Park. We recently stayed there for four days and had a very enjoyable stay. Our chalet had a river view and we often saw the hippos grazing on the banks. The resort is very well maintained with a high level of security. There are two gates to the Kruger National Park within close proximity (15km). One thing that the resort management can do is to ask the cellphone service providers to upgrade the signal strength in that area. The current signal is very poor. Sanbonani will definitely see us again!

Returned to Sanbonani for the fourth time in seven years. Allocated a chalet right on the Sabie river with a fantastic view across this into the bush. High standards have been maintained regarding all the resort's facilities since we last visited in 2011 and numerous things have been upgraded, new microwave, flat screen tv, decent oven and hob and now nice duvets on the beds .Housekeeping pleasant and efficient as always. Usual exciting view from the stoep after sunset in the form of the resident hippos grazing on the lawn...I never tire of this, it's probably what makes me keep returning to this resort. What a privilege.
If you are looking for somewhere really relaxing in Hazyview for a week of pure chillout then you could not do much better than come to Sanbonani.

We stayed one week in a 2 bedroom 2 bath chalet on the Sabi river. The unit would serve well as a home, with a complete kitchen, comfortable living room, and a great patio and barbeque. The units and the grounds are well maintained. There are lots of extras on the grounds (restaurant, bar, gift shop, gym, etc., but we made little use of them. We were there to see Kruger and all the other nearby sites, like Blyde River Canyon's God's Window, Bourkes Luck Potholes (absolutely awesome - don't miss it), the Sudwala Caves (okay), etc.

Room Tip: Yes, you need a car. And being from the U.S., it did take some time to get aclimated to a car with t...

Just got back home after spending a week (8/2-8/9) at Sanbonani. Our "room" was a 2 story chalet right on the Sabi river. The surroundings were very nice and peaceful. Staff was friendly and attentive. My complaints are: 1. You need a car to go anywhere off the hotel grounds. There is no shuttle. 2. They do not exchange foreign currency. Besides these 2 issues, I highly recommend this resort.

What a beautiful resort, so clean and well maintained! The chalets are clean and comfortable, and we were lucky enough to have the Hippo's come eat right outside our chalet at night! Staff were helpful and it is a close enough drive to tourist attractions like "God's Window" and "Bourke's Luck Potholes" and a cute Monkey place called "Monkey Birds". I also think it is really nice that they have feeding stations for the stray cats, most places just chase the poor cats away. Would defiantly go back!
