We stayed in one of the self catering units. It was clean and well maintained. The children thoroughly enjoyed the activities in and around the restaurant. They had mini golf, tennis, trampoline, pool table and tennis tables for the kids and the fees were nominal. We had breakfast one morning but you would only get value if you are a big eater. If not, you may feel it was a little steep for the amount of food consumed. There is a beautiful walking trail along the river and a well kept golf course for guests to use. Several swimming pools are available across the estate and they were always clean. A big plus is that it's really close to Kruger Park which makes day visits a pleasure. Well worth visiting.

We stayed at the Kruger park lodge through RCI vacation exchange in the month of June 2011, in a 2 BR and loft.

I have to say that it is one of the finest RCI exchanges that I have stayed at. The grounds are immaculately kept and the sight of Impalas on the grounds was a first in a resort for us.

The resort is huge and you need driving directions to get to your chalet. The chalet that we stayed in was spacious, very clean and had all the equipment needed. The housekeeping did a spotless job every morning and were prompt to any requests. They even had a private barbeque facility in the patio of the chalet.

The restaurant is average. For kids they have a mini golf game, a trampoline, and a lot of open space.

The Phabeni gate was just a 15 min drive from the lodge and we drove into the park ourselves and was an amazing experience.

I suggest that you take the evening safari directly at the gate as it was cheaper and the guides of the park knew their job well and spotted lions, rhinos, buffalos and other smaller wild cats.

The Pick n Pay and Spar are right opposite the lodge and its easy to get your supplies in. They have an on site laundry service as well.

Could have stayed there for a week more, as it felt so peaceful and WILD !!

Room Tip: A room close to the reception or the exit gate.

We stayed in one of the many large self catering chalets for a week. The chalet was well maintained and had all the amenities and the maid service was very good. There is a small central reception area with a smallish restaurant that is average and a small bar. The staff on reception were very helpful indeed. But really this is a place for people who want self catering in a good quality chalet and to use the site as a base for touring and especially visiting Kruger Park. We would not class this as a hotel as such and would be surprised if for example there was any full scale high quality room service. There is a large mall just near the entrance with three supermarkets and other shops and two smaller tourist malls nearby one with a Belgian patisserie and bakery. There is a hippo pond with about 10 hippos and some crocs to keep the children interested as well as a children's adventure area.

The villas are dotted around a golf course with a herd of impalas browsing on the green, a troop of vervet monkeys swinging down from the trees and a couple of sedentary hippos dozing in the river that runs alongside.

Our villa (232A) was beautiful with a patio, living room, two bedrooms, kitchen-dining area, and a large sleeping area with bunk beds on the first floor. It could have comfortably slept 8 but with only two bathrooms - we were four, so we had enough space and then some. The kitchenette was very well appointed and, unlike a lot of self-catering places, the daily help would change the towels, sweep the place and do the dishes.

The grocery store (large chain) as well as what's billed as Mpumalanga's largest mall is across the road and about 100 meters away from the main gate, but because there's a 1.5km driveway within the lodge premises, it's easier if you have a car. It's a few minutes drive to the nearest Kruger Park gate (but I'd still recommend you visit the park with a professional guide to optimize your chances of great wildlife sighting - I'd recommend Regent Safaris)

When we stayed there were problems with the electricity for the first 3 nights and a shortage of information about it from the staff, but they were helpful with candles and matches.

The restaurant is serviceable - we just ate there the first night we landed.
