We rented a chalet at this resort and were extremely impressed by the size of the unit and quality of the place-large bedrooms and spacious kitchen as well as a beautiful patio with great furniture.Excellently kept grounds with exquisite gardens and lots of birds.

Room Tip: Units on Hippo Crescent are best.

This vacation at the Sabi River Sun was nothing short of spectacular. We stayed November 25- December 2, 2011.

We stayed in Chalet #56 as part of our time share exchange. It was breathtaking. The room was huge and had 2 full bedrooms and bathrooms, a loft with 2 beds for the kids, very large kitchen, dining room and living room and was very clean. The view from our patio was amazing as it was overlooking the Sabi River which had Crocodiles and Hippos in it. (An electrified fence prevented them from encroaching on the grounds.) You could hear the sounds of the 20 or so hippos in the water, it really gave the feel of being in Africa. The hippos migrated to the other side of the river through the golf course every night at 6:30pm. All access to the golf course was blocked off for obvious safety measures but made for an incredible viewing experience each night.

The rooms are well made each day. You have a large kitchen area complete with fridge and stove and lots of room for preparing meals. There is a large supermarket 2 kms away in Hazyview so you can save $ by making your own dinners. You even have a built in BBQ on your patio.

You are 13 kms from Phabeni Gate in Kruger Park so your safariing can get started quickly each day. You could also experience 2 different elephant sanctuarys very close by which includes touching and riding them. Hazyview is a relatively safe town and at no point did we feel unsafe. (The resort itself is enclosed by 3 fences 2 are electrifed and armed guards are there to be safe anyway).

The food for breakfast and dinner was very tasty. The grounds are meticulously kept and are stunning to walk around and all of the staff was excellent, helpful and very friendly.

Try to eat at Summerfields if you can about 4 kms up the road. 5 Star restaurant with dirt cheap prices (e.g. Steak $11).
http://www.safarinow.com/destinations/hazyview/restaurants/Summerfields-Kitchen.aspx

There are plenty of other small restaurants around the area as well.

Kruger park has all of the big 5 animals and so much more. You can spend all of your time in the park and still not see everything. There is a Board at each gate letting you know where other visitors have seen which type of animal just in case you haven't seen that particular one yet.

This was a trip to remember!

Room Tip: Any room on the time share exchange is a good one from what I can tell.

We found the hotel to be ideal for anyone who wants to visit the Kruger and stay outside of the Kruger national park. It is ideally located near shops and restaurants. The hotel is nicely kept and the staff was very friendly.

We have recently purchased a Timeshare Chalet in the resort and visited for the first time in January 2012. We were not disappointed, what an amazing place !!!! Such a tranquil setting, abundance of bird life, crocodiles and a family of hippos on your doorstep. Well manicured landscape gardens and a golfers paradise. All staff were most welcoming and very helpful.
Can't wait to go back !!

Our family of 3 escaped Joburg for a weekend stay late November 2011. We found that the staff and the grounds were nice, while the hotel and the food were average. Upon arrival we settled our belongings into a clean, but standard hotel room with 2 double beds, basic amenities and a small balcony. Drawn to the sweeping golf course and mountain views from the hotel patio, we settled into some comfy chairs for afternoon cocktails and appletisers. Within moments a friendly staffer approached our son (age 10) to invite him for a reptile show-and he was off-joined a gang of kids on the lawn nearby and we all enjoyed the afternoon. Having made new friends, all the kids chose to rent the mountain bikes from the pro shop and spent the entire weekend exploring the resort's golf course, what we call crocodile island and turtle bridge-despite the perpetual grey clouds and mist. It was a safe, open resort and we could see the kids from our room or patio at all times. There were many other activities and the staff even made sure we were well supplied with table tennis balls for our late night family matches. The food was a buffet and was simple and again the staff friendly. There is also an a la carte menu. It seemed there was a mix of families, a wedding and a corporate golf retreat and all seemed to get along amicably. We enjoyed our weekend and would attribute it to the staff, activities for our son and the grounds.

We have timeshare at Sabi River Sun, and every year that we have been there, we have never been disappointed. It is so peaceful and relaxing, a fantastic getaway. It feels like a second home to me! Thanks to everyone of the staff that makes it an awesome experience all the time:)

When we drove in through the entrance to this hotel we thought this is going to be great! Lovely sweeping drive, very pleasant exterior and grounds (set within a lush golf course) which were really wonderful. This all eased when we got to the room, which was very average. Clean but very plain. Limird sir conditioning.

The food was simply… average. The buffet on offer quite poor, but what passed for an a la care, of pizza and burgers and the like ok. The staff, however, were terrific, friendly, jolly and helpful. Drink reasonably priced. A mixed bag therefore. We were only there for one night which together with the birds in the grounds and the opportunity to see the hotels own hippos was really very nice. Lovely stroll in the gardens in the morning. Breakfast more than adequate. There is a nice, but smallish, pool and a bar set alongside – very pleasant.

This hotel isn’t earth shattering, but neither is it awful. For a few nights it would be great – especially if you had access to one of the lodges in the grounds rather than the hotel rooms we had. Very limited on site shop – if you were self catering in one of the lodges not good enough, but you do have the hotel restaurant to fall back on. Perfect for our needs, but not for a prolonged stay.

Room Tip: Seemed all the same!
