Fantasic! The only way to describe one's stay in this boutique resort. From the setting, ambience, food and general care, there's only one way to describe this experience: The perfect relaxing weekend spot.

Room Tip: All rooms have a magnificent view over the gorge. No fitness centre except a walk down into the gorge. Book a massage treatment in your room- exquisite!

We stayed at Tanamera Lodge for our first wedding anniversary. We stayed in the honeymoon suite. We had a private deck with splash pool and outdoor shower. Our suite overlooked the Sabie river and we had the most amazing sunsets! The bed is draped with a mosquito net and the bathroom has the most amazing shower as well as an antique bath. The breakfast and dinner is tasty, well presented and the staff is well trained and friendly. We had our dinner in our room the one night and the staff set a beautiful candle lit table for us. This was a fantastic stay and is highly recommended for a romantic getaway.

Jenice & Russel have created a paradise spot on earth. I can only recommend to get lost at Tanamera Lodge. It is a perfect place to really arrive in South Africa instead of just driving straight into Kruger or Sabi Sands.

The lodge is right on the top of a hill and offers a great view on the Sabi river. It is very close to another very well known and very expensive lodge but offers far more warmth and value for the money. I had the luck to get an upgrade to the honeymoon suite. It is on of the very best rooms in a hotel or lodge I ever had. Just look at the pictures. You will instantly see that somebody put a loot of thoughts, work and love into this (it was mostly Russel as you will learn after some drinks at the bar).

The rooms offer everything you may need and if something is missing, just ask for the friendly service and you will get it.

There is no fitness center but for what? Just run the hill down to the Sabi river and back, enjoy the privacy of your pool and you are fit!

Mpumalanga Lowvled offers a lot of sight seeing and you will need at least a day to get at least to the Blyde River Canyon, God's Window and some of the marvelous waterfalls. My suggestion is to spend the money for helicopter trip. It is expensive but worth every ZAR!

Room Tip: Try to get the honeymoon suite

We stayed here in march 2012 for 3 nights after seeing it advertised in a magazine. astonishing views, beautiful rooms, and excellent food. couldn't really fault anything.
The rooms all feel very private, which was lovely, and the views are ridiculous! The rooms are absolute luxury, all the little details made it extra special- and the service was brilliant!
It was a fair bit more expensive than a lot of the places we stayed in SA, so we booked it as a bit of a treat- and if you have the money to spend then it is definitely worth it. I can't really think of any negatives!
There were quite a few stairs to walk down to get to our room so maybe check which room is easiest to get to if this would be a problem; and definitely think its more of a couples destination than family.

Room Tip: honeymoon suite!

I was here many years ago and was reminded by an email from Tripadvisor of various hotels with stunning views.
You drive up from the main road ("up" being the correct word) as Tanamera is placed high on a hill. You enter a lovely reception, lounge/dining area and as you walk towards the huge picture window, you're greeted by a superb view looking down onto the indigenous forests and the sparkling Sabie river far below.
The chalet is more of the same. Well appointed rooms with good linen, towels etc and a lovely bathroom with huge walk-in shower and free-standing bath. As you lie in the bath you have a great view over the forest.
Dinner is around a large communal dining table and food is good and wholesome.
You're near most of the main tourist sites such as God's Window and Pilgrims Rest. I'd say 2 nights here is perfect.
