“ABSOLUTELY THE BEST PLACE TO STAY FOR KRUGER!!”
Reviewed July 7, 2010

As a group of 7 heading to S.A. for World Cup, we wanted to first go to Kruger for some gaming drives. After exhaustive research, we decided on Abangane Lodge. When finally reached it (after 2 days of flights from Los Angeles. and the 4 hr drive from JoBurg), our jaws dropped. What an OASIS! The grounds are absolutely GORGEOUS! We met 4 other friends there and had the 11 of us were the only occupants. The 4 dogs are gorgeous as well (being from the States, I had never seen a "Ridgeback" before...BEAUTIFUL!) We were there during the Winter, so the pool didn't get much use, but I would imagine that during the summer it would be lovely!
The first night there, Klaus took us to the side fence of the property with a flashlight to show us the Zebras that had congregated on the other side! He said that they also frequently get impalas, a giraffe, and even hippos! When the dogs start barking, that's the time to go see who has stopped by to say hello!
The rooms are IMPECCABLE from top to bottom....BEAUTIFULLY decorated and very comfortable.
The food is TO DIE FOR! Prepared by Klaus and Ridwaan (the owners!), you will not eat better in South Africa during your stay. Unfortunately, this was our first stop, so our this set our standards impossibly high.
Klaus and Ridwaan were incredible hosts. Very friendly, and HILARIOUS! When my husband and I explained to Klaus that the other woman staying in our room was my sister-n-law (my husband's twin), the punchlines rolled in. And you want to talk about going the extra mile? When we went on our morning game drive, they unexpectedly packed us several large coolers with breakfast/lunch items for us to take! They exceeded all expectations.
Since it was World Cup and there were matches to be watched, Klaus would schedule dinner so as not to interfer with the night match. He would then turn on the big screen, and to lead up to the start of the game, he played a special CD with all of the great World-Cup songs. It was wonderful.
Anyone planning a trip to Kruger need not look further than Abangane Lodge. You will not find a better stay or experience.

Stayed with my wife for 3 nights a week or so ago and we wish we were still there

We were the only guests which added to the special feeling, it was like staying in our own place but with staff who could not do enough to ensure that we were happy

Service was professional but friendly. The food was excellent. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortably furnished

There were four large dogs resident which gave one a feeling of security. My wife and I love dogs and for us this was a bonus

All in all we would rank Abangane in first place out of the eight places we stayed at on our travels

We stayed here for 3 fabulous days and would simply say that Abangane is a magical place to stay, with wonderful hosts, stunning views, and food to die for. We had dinner every night and must say that the food was absolutely fabulous - you will not eat better anywhere !

Hazyview is easy to reach and is conveniently located to explore the splendours of the Blyde River Canyon and to access numerous game reserves including the Kruger National Park.

Abangane Guest Lodge is a small, privately owned establishment set within its own secure grounds. The attention to detail here is impressive. All items within the rooms and the hotel itself are high quality and tasteful. The well tended grounds are small, but very pleasant and the view from them across the open country gives a great feeling of space.

The owners are very welcoming and charming and are quick to engage guests in chat and banter. Having a sense of humour is definitely an asset as the banter can get hilarious.

Breakfast is included and an evening meal is often available as an option. The price of the evening meal is quite reasonable and the cuisine is top class. As a dedicated foodie and married to a chef, I don't make this statement lightly. If the evening meal option is available during your stay, grasp the opportunity with both hands. You won't regret it.

We stayed for three nights and found this to be an oasis of peace and calm. As others have noted the rooms are large and beautiful. My partner was not feeling well and our plans to tour the area by car were not to be. Fortunately, spening the days sitting by the pool sipping a drink and reading a good book and looking out over the hills from the infinity pool made me feel as if I was not missing out on anything and we were content to be stranded in paradise. I will always remember breakfast on the veranda and dinner was some of the best food of our trip in the most romantic setting at an incredible R180!!! The decor is understated elegance and the web site cannot capture the serene beauty of this place. Klaus and Ridwaan are so caring and are rightly proud of this beautiful and well run guest lodge.

There are absolutely no words to describe how amazingly great Abangane Lodge is. Beyond the beautiful setting, the cleanliness, the awesome rooms, how quiet it was, etc...the service is truly what made this such an exceptional choice. There was such an emphasis on attention to detail that I seriously thought my mother was the one preparing all the meals for me and making my arrangements for all the trips. It truly felt like I had known them for years, and I was sad to have to leave them behind. I don't think that I would've loved South Africa as much if I had not stayed at Abangane Lodge. I recommend it, hands down. DONT LOOK ANYWHRE ELSE!
