My sister Carol and I travelled from the UK at the beginning of Sept 2011 and had our first 3 night stay at Abangane. Wonderful breakfasts with lots of choice. If you like good quality food with flair at dinner this might just be the place for you - no choice but not really needed, if you don't like the menu ( I'd be surprised if you didn't ) Klaus is happy to offer you something else - when I say happy ( you need to understand his sense of humour ) we loved him! Worth noting no dinners served on a Sunday. His partner Ridwaan is absolutely charming and made us feel very welcome. The setting is beautiful with a well kept garden - a birders paradise! Our room and bathroom were spotless and of good design - we had the spacious room No 2 but all the rooms looked good and opened onto the gardens. The thing I was most sorry to say goodbye to at Abangane was Zeena a beautiful and friendly dog ( known as a tart - she will go to anyone ) I thought she and her friends were incredibly well trained - but Zeena won my heart. My sister and I would recommend Abangane to anyone. Ellie of East Grinstead Sussex

We enjoyed our stay at Abangane Lodge but probably did not experience it at it’s best due to fact that the owners were leaving on our final day for their own vacation. This caused us to miss our pre-booked dinner for the second night, something that we truly missed as we were exhausted from all of our traveling and safaris and wanted to relax and flake out and we were very much looking forward to the raved about food. The rooms at the lodge were lovely and comfortable. The grounds were beautiful and restful. The hosts were helpful but distracted, and we felt at times as if our presence was something of an imposition. One member of our party asked for something and was asked to return it to the kitchen which was unusual, and when we asked for bread at one point we were told that they would see if something “could be defrosted.” One added plus was the African Frog that hijacked his way unbeknownst to us in my suitcase. He made his presence known to us in our Rome Hotel, while unpacking after the long flight, with a loud croak and a couple of quick hops to the balcony. Hopefully he won’t start of colony of African toads in Rome! Abagane Lodge was very nice, just not exceptional.

Dear thea 123

Thank you very much for your positive review and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are nevertheless sad that we disappointed you and you did not experience your stay and our service as exceptional.

It is correct that on your day of departure we also started our overseas trip, but that should not have had impact on your stay and we are sorry that you felt we were distracted. We missed to inform you that the kitchen would be closed for dinner on your second night but trust you enjoyed the dinner on the day of your arrival.

We unfortunately cannot recall the incident with regards to having to return something to the kitchen. The bread you asked for was to accompany your take aways and needed to be defrosted as our bread mostly is kept in the freezer. It was a service at no charge to you and did not pose a problem for us.
To clarify the above we will contact you via email to get more details to avoid such occurrences for the future.

Best regards,
Klaus Hollander

Great relaxing weekend at Abangane Lodge in Hazyview, a true gem, run by wonderful hosts. The beautiful views over the valley, and the warm hospitality make you relax from the moment you arrive. The rooms are also well equipped with lovely beds and great showers. Lots to do in the area..

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely, with views of equal stature over the valley. Very quite

Super reception, super rooms and super meal. Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer.
This is a real gem just outside Hazyview. The location has a wonderful view, is tranquil, but yet convenient. From here day trips to the Kruger, Pilgrim's rest or Blyde River Canyon are all possible and easy.
The food was excellent and beautifully presented with a nice selection of wines at fair prices to go alongside.
The rooms were comfortable and clean and a great size.
I have already recommended this to several friends.
We will definitely be back !

Exquisite surroundings, beautiful finishes, heavenly beds, excellent breakfast, superb service, tranquil surroundings......certainly a GEM!! I loved every second. I could really relax undisturbed, without hearing anything remotely disturbing(except my colleagues disastrous coughing next door.....but that was non of Abanganes doing! :-)

Thank you, Ridwaan and Klaus, for all the personal touches, fresh linen, sparkling rooms and lovely pool surroundings, where I took my laptop to work unperturbed.

It was ONLY a JOY!!! I WILL be back!

Restaurants close by: Summerfield, Pioneers......excellent! Also enjoyed Papa's for a pasta one evening. In clos proximity to Abangane.

Room Tip: Any room is excellent.....views to all sides. I d.
