“Just do it !!”

My wife and I stayed in this heavenly retreat this summer (winter season in South Africa). We only stayed for 3 days and in hindsight would have stayed longer. Note the prices are 50% cheaper during this period.

An amazing overall experience;, a deck above a free flowing river, 5 star tent room/cabin, a shower position above the river with no doors and yet privacy so no other can see, a huge bath tub for two looking into the forest, hotel is part of a rose and macadamia farm so large that it takes a 5min journey to drive from the gate to your room, welcomed with a million fresh roses in your room, and a refreshing rose and sparkling water drink (which we are still trying to recreate) upon arrival.

Owners are very polite and charming. However the rest of the staff stood out for us ESPECIALLY Steve. He assisted us in every detail going the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed South Africa and our experience. The localness of Hazyview was truly felt with the kindness and and welcome from Linda (Steve's partner) who is the head chef of Kuka's in town a few mins away. Try her food it was lovely (and Halal, but please request in advance)

We would love to go back and would certainly stay in Summerfields.

Went first to casa do Sol in Hazyview, didn't like that accommodation and went to Summerfields, a little distance down the road. They had a midweek special of R995 per tent per night room only instead of R1395 DBB pp. The tents are really nice safaristyle tents with outdoor shower/bath and toilet but fully private right on the Sabie river. Very comfortable with all the luxurys you need. They have a lovelly bar and small lunch restaurant on the river and at night a proper restaurant at the entrance of the resort (not walking distance). In the evening they bring you to the restaurant and back. The restaurant is of a decent standard, disadvantage is that the menu and winelist are a bit restricted, maybe this is because it was low season.
They have a spa but we didn't have time to enjoy this.
we loved the setting and friendliness of the lodge and the very comfortable tent rooms.

We visited the restaurant, had a great lunch, and then went on a tour of the spa and the luxury tented accommodation that is built into a line of trees on an embankment about 4 metres above a river. The whole place is out of this world and we would have no hesitation in spending a few nights there. The staff are very friendly and helpful and www think that the management may have changed hands at some point in 2011.
Bear it in mind that this accommodation is on a macadamia farm and that it is not a hotel in the traditional sense. So there are walks from the accommodation to eat and there is really no central lounge area. It is not for those who like their hotels downtown style but it is for those who like a bit of adventurous luxury and something very different.

Room Tip: The rooms are tents with wooden floors.

The guy that took us to our room and picked us up was very nice and he explained it was a family run business. The rooms are clean and nice especially considering they are in a tent. The bathrooms are great and the tub is great to take a soak in. This place is logistically just difficult. There is no way of telling people you needs something besides walking to a reception area near the tents but if somebody else needs something at the same time you are just waiting there for somebody to show up. Getting up to the restaurant is a pain because you have to have somebody walkie talkie up to there to send the van down. We heard the guy up at the restaurant be incredibly rude to the security guard over walkie talkie which really bothered us. Our food was very average but the waitress and manger were very friendly. We had spa treatments and the setting looks tranquil except it is an open setting which backs up to a common area and a German woman was yelling on her cell not paying attention to the sign that asks for quiet. The treatment itself was good not great. Overall I just can't say the good outweighs the bad.

I stayed in Summerfields for one night. The tents are amazing and the stuff gives special atention to details. The tent by the river is full of little conforts, roses, fruits, music, etc and in the evening when i got in the bed there was a bag of hot water underneath the blanket. The beauty of the place makes it the perfect spot for a romantic getaway. The food was good but could be better. Everyone was very nice there, a little mechanic.....
I´ve read other reviews saying that couldn´t be a resort cause it was a farm of roses, i thought that was one of the things that makes this place unique.
I would love the check out to be a little later or them to be more flexible but this was one of the things i would include in their "mechanic" atitude. I think flexibility is intelligent profissionalism.

This place looks amazing and may seem so at first. The spa is great and the staff friendly. BUT once you get over the initial pleasant bit, you realise that there is something seriously amiss. The staff are terrified of management (who were very unfriendly and complained about being busy) and scuttle about scared for their jobs/lives. The food is superbad. Complaints fall upon deaf ears if you are lucky but more probably will be met with aggression. I can strongly recommend you don't stay here. It's such a pity as the place is so beautiful.
