I have been traveling to the northern part of Limpopo for over a year now and I FINALLY found a fantastic place to stay. The farm is stunning and peaceful. The rooms are comfortable and the food was outstanding! I only wish I found it sooner.

The hosts Marcelle en Aart (and friend Jan) make you feel so welcome everytime you enter the house: whether you arrive as new guests or after a day of excursion, always there for you. Their philosophy with the community projects is great, they really help locals to improve their standards of living. Marcelle works hard to develop different projects. We enjoyed Aart with his dry humor, never a dull moment. So, enjoy staying in this nature valley, monkeys on the terrace, very nice and relaxing people in the most 'african' area of South Africa.

We made reservations for two nights at the lodge as it was close to the Soutpansberg mountains, offered an opportunity to do some walking prior to our stay at the Kruger National Park, and advertised a positive image as an ethical contributor to the local community.
Our accommodation was clean, comfortable and modern. The food was very good. Our hosts were welcoming and friendly, and made many efforts to help us to make the most of our stay. We walked near the farm and at a neighbouring farm and enjoyed good views over the area. We rented mountain bikes for one day and went out with our guide (at very short notice) to visit a local community and see at firsthand how people are living, and how they are making the adjustments to life in a developing nation. Our guide confirmed that the owners (his employers) were making a positive contribution to the local community in a number of ways. We were struck by their investment in the education of their staff (including the guide), and the children of their staff.
We would recommend this accommodation most highly and would be happy to stay there again.

This completely revamped, modern, and lovely mountain lodge is adorned with art and crafts from local artisans - all for sale on-site at affordable prices - is clean and spacious. The food is incredible - the hostess, Marcelle, is a fantastic cook - and we had fresh vegetables for the first time in our 3 weeks in Africa. The couple who run the lodge formerly worked on development projects in Johannesburg; upon retiring, they decided to bring their experience in sustainability and community development to the beautiful northern South Africa mountains. They can also arrange tours of local artists cooperatives in the region, which we found fascinating. Check out their website for their story - mountainlodgefarm.com - and all the details. This was a relaxing and completely comfortable stay from beginning to end. Highest recommendation!

Madi a Thavha is a working farm in the Soutpansberg mountains in the Limpopo province 10 kms from Louis Trichardt.
It is run by a Dutch couple Marcelle and Aart, who offer beautiful, tasteful and comfortable accommodations on their property, self catering or bed and breakfast with the option of booking for a delicious dinner too.
They are caring and warm hosts who really want their guests to have a genuine experience in the african countryside.
If you are interested they will take you to visit local artists with whom they have close ties on the famous Ribolla route around Elim.
The area is rural and you get a glimpse of african village life.
If you are looking for more than just a beautiful hotel this place is personnal and you get to know the local people, Marcelle and Aart are happy to help you understand the issues that the country has to deal with
At the same time the farm is in an idyllic setting, completely secluded with many possibilities, hikes, swimming pool, cultural tours etc...
we cannot recommend it enough and would go back today if we could!
