My Husband and I honeymooned at Jock in April 2013 and were absolutely blown away with the luxury, the atmosphere, the service, everything! Down to the tiniest detail, they have got it spot on and we loved every moment.
Patrick, our Ranger, was absolutely amazing making sure we saw everything and made the most of our first ever safari. He is known as the Cat Hunter - Every drive we saw a Lion or Leopard! The food was the best we've ever had and loved the personal touch that Addy, the chef, would always come and talk to us and was so proud of his culinary delights - And so he should be!
We have never experienced anything as fantastic as Jock and have recommended it to everyone we know, would definitely come back!

Booked into Fitzpatricks for 3 nights in Feb 2013. We were the only guests at the time and had a lovely cottage with a private patio and view across the river. Naome (hostess) and Pete (the ranger) were exceptional and gave us a very warm welcome. The food was plentiful with ample choice and delicious. The safari drives in the early morning and evening were fantastic - we saw a wide range of wild animals as well as local birdlife. The lodging was within the Kruger Park which gives you the advantage of viewing wildlife after the park closes - providing an incredible experience. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Little Jock provides seclusion and ideal for a large group.

We recently stayed four nights at the Jock and had a wonderful family safari holiday in comfort and style. The facilities, while retaining a rustic charm that is in keeping with their environment, still offer a touch of luxury after a hard day on the trail of the local wildlife. The outdoor shower with views of the river was a real experience. On our second day at lunchtime, we were sunning ourselves on the deck when a family of elephants appeared opposite and, quite unperturbed by our presence, went about demolishing an unsuspecting local tree, On our final morning, we were seen off by a family of marmosets that had come down to the roof of our lodge from the trees above. Food and drink are plentiful and of a high standard. We should mention the hospitality of Louis and chef Ati that added so much to our enjoyment of our time at the Jock, but a special mention should go to our guide Patrick who managed to show us all of the Big 5 and plenty more besides while keeping up a highly entertaining and informative narrative about the animals, as well as doing an impressive impersonation of a buffalo in distress!

A birthday trip for me with my 2 teenage boys ended perfectly here at Jock. The whole experience will stay with us forever thanks to the beautifully tasteful, clean acommodation, the copious amounts of delicious food (forget any weight loss regime!), the knowledge snd passion of our ranger, Barend. He didn't want to bring us back in from each game drive because he enjoyed them too much!
Highly recommend Jock Lodge for a special treat. You will be made to feel very welcome in this magical place.
Remember to take warm clothing In layers for the drives. You will need these along with the blankets provided.....
Thank you all at Jock!

Room Tip: Very happy in room 5 & 6 which were cleverly interleading.

All the South African tour books for Kruger National Park said to do some days in a SANS Park spot and a couple days at a private reserve. We spent considerable time researching places and decided Jock was the best for the value. While the national park facilities were clean, inexpensive and were great for budget safari's, comparing the public facilities to the private reserves is equivalent to comparing a Ford Fiesta to a McLaren F1. This place was excellent. The setting overlooked a riverbed, which turned into a runway for elephants and rhinos. The service was exceptional. The chef runs a tight ship and the food was inventive and world class. The off road safari's were better than I expected. They do this whole beers, wine and crackers outside the vehicle thing, and while I'm all in for beers, the approaching sound of a hungry hippo (not the board game kind) does add beads of sweat to your eye brow. This place would get a 5 star rating if it wasn't for a situation in which we were surrounded by three, mangy hyenas while outside the vehicle 'having beers.' I thought the safari guide was a fool. The guide later conceded to me at dinner that his false calm was really a disguise for real concern in which one of us would have been 'pulled out' from the group by the hyenas. Getting eaten by a predator in South Africa is not on my bucket list. Getting out of the vehicle in Kruger with a private guide is cool, but do what I did and sit next to the gun if the fool guiding you is itching to star in Faces of Death. One other cool experience that we would not have gotten if we hadn't stayed at Jock was to be part of a Rhino capture with the South African National Park. You couldn't have paid for that type of experience. Jock has the connections. Overall, great wildlife viewing (saw the Big 5), great food, but the guide's senseless endangerment of the group irritated me.

My husband and I spent three nights at Jock Safari lodge in March, and had an incredible experience. As other reviewers have noted, you spend most of your time with your ranger and the others in your group (max of six people), and we were lucky to be assigned to the wonderful Mica. His knowledge of Kruger was impressive -- we knew he was legit on our first game drive when he spotted a tiny green chameleon hiding in a leafy bush, while driving, at night, with a spotlight. Not to mention the fact that he was able to find all Big Five for us....before breakfast (in one game drive) our first full day at Jock. Apparently that is atypical, but was the coolest experience. His tracking abilities were fascinating. The day is centered around game drives (early morning and late afternoon/evening), and an abundance of delicious meals. They really outdo themselves on that front. Accommodations were top notch, and our room had the most amazing view of the river. We saw giraffes, warthogs, cape buffalo while sitting on our deck, and I (sadly) packed to the tune of rhinos fighting on the banks. Louis and crew do a wonderful job of providing an experience that is equal parts upscale and authentic. Can't recommend Jock enough!

Room Tip: Room #1 has a fantastic view of the river and has open plains where we saw a bunch of game. Pack yo...

Our stay Jock Safari Lodge was amazing. All the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Our ranger, Lazarus, was phenomenal. Thanks to him we managed to see all of the Big 5, which does not happen often. This was quite magical. I would prefer to have a shower inside, as well as the outside shower. Decor can be updated, as per other 5 star game lodges i have stayed in. Rangers should ask guest their guests drinks preferences before the game drives to prevent disappointment. Value for money is average - even with the 50% discount. Food was great. Overall really enjoyed it. Will definately recommend it.
