“Okay camp, do not expect too much”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

Skukuza restcamp is a rather big rest camp with many facilities. We stayed in a family room for one night October 2013. The rondavel is alright with three beds and bathroom. The room was clean but somewhat dated, in need for an upgrade. It is okay, but do not expect too much. The shop was okay, but they had run out of supplies regarding groceries etc. We had dinner at the restaurant down by the river. The food was okay, but nothing special. If Skukuza is you first stop in the park, bring your own food and do the Brai – barbecue instead. It is a much better alternative.

Our daughter was looking forward to take a dip in pool, but the water was dirty and the pool area was terribly managed which was a real disappointment. In the Kruger park we also stayed in Satara which we preferred due to the atmosphere, location and feeling of the camp.

I was traveling with a couple who booked one of the little chalets and they told me that their night was very nice and everything was clean and tidy. I myself stayed in the camping area which was just a lumpy patch of grass off to the one side. I finally found an even place to pitch my tent and it worked well enough for the night. We did manage to get a quiet swim in the nice pool before it closed for the night and the kitchen facilities were great as we had our own food. The staff we saw were friendly and even though this is the biggest camp in the park, it was not so noisy at night and a good nights sleep was had. The gift shop was also a nice bonus as I found some nice quality SA Outback hats to take home for family members.

We were a family with kids staying in this camp.
Perfect stay in Kruger! thoroughly enjoyed the chalets and experience.
Well equipped rooms ,neat and clean .
complete privacy. and best location wise .This is the best cam amongst all the other camps.
The kiosk is near by and restaurant is also good.

Room Tip: make bookings quiet in advance

Although the biggest camp in Kruger, it was not as massive as I expected upfront. Of course the restaurant is very big (a congress was held during our time with a lot of business people) but again a beautiful terrace (as in Olifants) with great views.
We did not try Game Drives from this camp but we booked a tent. The tent is big enough to stand straight, to dress yourself and has a fridge and comfortable beds. The only disadvantage is that the shared bathroom is a little bit remote, so when you need to take a comfort brake in the middle of the night you need to have a torch.
Again, do not expect friendly staff and minimize your time in the camp.

Room Tip: - book locations in Kruger Park well in advance (at least 3 months) - bring a torch when you spent...

A nice place to stay at after a long day in the park, the room is a bit small but functional. A big store is available on site to buy anything you forgot to bring with. The restaurant in the camp was very good.

The room was average, but it had a nice kitchen so we could cook our food. The park is perfect and you can see all animals easily. Just make sure you buy a map =) There was a great mini market were we could buy food and souvenir.

So we returned to the ABSA guesthouse in Skukuza. This grand old lady can sleep 12 people, has 4 bathrooms and a central lounge and sitting area with multiple braai locations. We have stayed here before and at some ZAR 3000 per night for the four of us it is not a bad deal in this magnificent wild park.

The facilities were clean, cleaner than before, although the entire site is very tired. It needs a thorough make over which I am sure will not happen in the next couple of years. People will come and visit and stay in Kruger just for its size, and diversity. We had quite a bit of rain and the water streamed through the thatched roof into the kitchen on two evenings. Our bed rooms were perfectly dry and in order, but this is not really something that you should experience.

We love Kruger, and saw the big five (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, and rhino) as well as cheetah, hyena, hippo, and much more. The birding was again just wonderful with a couple of "lifers", although we did not manage to see the Madagascar Cuckoo that had been a round a couple of days before.

Room Tip: We stayed in the ABSA guesthouse , as Waterkant 1 and 2 had been booked. Would recommend to stay in...
