Skukuza is the main restcamp in Kruger. It is very well organized, clean, staff are friendly and met a great South African couple who made this experience much more enriching, they stay at Kruger at least one week per month and they've experienced so much....

You can see and hear animals around the camp and walking along the fence during the night.

But if you want to stay there, book in advance, even on low season, cause the place is always full.

The Semi-luxury bungalows were not bad, but generally this camp is now looking a bit tired and frayed around the edges, which is a great pity.

It is one of the larger camps and the service in the restaurant is a joke. The food was inedible and sent back. BTW it was just a hamburger.

I would however recommend the take away sandwiches that were a much better option.

The rest camp is comprised a substantial number of detached cabins located on winding lanes and a separate area for tents and caravans(trailers). My cabin was equipped with 2 single beds, good sized bathroom and shower, and a small kitchen outside in the screened porch. There is a large convenience store selling food, alcohol, and souvenirs. If you choose not to cook, there is a fast food restaurant and a large full service restaurant. Be sure to arrive with a flashlight to find your way around the confusing lanes at night and as a safety item to avoid snakes (did not see any). All the cabins look the same and it would be helpful for numbers to also be on the doors rather than lane side at back.

Arrived early, but couldn't check-in before there 1400 check-in time, so we went out on our own game drive and were fortunate enough to see some Lions.

We stopped in a semi-luxury bungalow for 1 night, which was clean and comfortable. We took part in a sunset drive and sunrise drive, so never really spent much time at the bungalow, but there was a fridge and BBQ by the front door.

We ate at the main restaurant on the camp where the food was nice.

We went to Skukuza for brunch on our 1st day of game viewing in the Park & had such a bad experience that we almost cancelled the booking we had made to stay there on the following day! The meal & the service were really bad, & when we complained to the manageress we were treated with complete indifference. It was so unlike the meal & service we had received at Sabie Restcamp the day before which is strange as all the menus for the Parks Restcamps are the same! The night that we spent staying in Skukuza was not much better than our brunch experience! The rooms were run down, badly maintained & the cleanliness was appalling - unwashed pots in the cupboards!! To top it all off, we were looking forward to enjoying the large deck on the river to view game at sunset & there was nothing to be seen. We would certainly not stay there again!

Beautiful sunrises and river views. The bed was fine but the pillows were terrible and the bedding looked grey. One pillow slip was marked in a large font with a thick laundry marker (looked like an inventory number). The shower worked well but the shower door film definitely needs replacing. The floor rugs are very "tired" and we really struggled with the locking and unlocking of the sliding doors - my colleague's could not even lock! Take you own soap/shower gel and shampoo. The accomodation was free (we were invited guests). Very minimal upgrade can make a significant difference!

We stayed in a four person onsite tent. The tent and bedding were clean and comfortable. The fridge was very handy and we loved being right by the fence (hyena at night were a huge thrill!). The camp shop was affordable and really well stocked.

The campsite is a bit tired with overgrown gardens and areas that just need a big tidy. The swimming pool is also a bit 'off'; wasn't entirely sure swimming in it was a good idea. We weren't around much during the day as we were out in the park so this didn't really matter. Fortunately, we were there during a very quiet period so didn't have the crowding issues that others have spoken about. We really loved being in the Kruger for the first time and our stay at Skukuza was very much a part of that.
