If you have time to visit only one game lodge in South Africa, make sure that you stay at Imbali Safari Lodge. We stayed at Imbali for 2 nights, and wished that we had booked for longer.
We have both stayed at many lodges in the Sabi Sands and Timbavati, but NEVER have we had such a wonderful experience at a lodge as what we did at Imbali.
The lodge is luxurious without being over the top; the room was spacious and well appointed with a lovely wooden deck over looking a dry river bed. There is also a splash pool on the deck.
The peace and quiet is what made Imbali special for us. We felt as though we were the only people there.
The staff are simply the nicest, friendliest people we have had the pleasure of meeting. And what makes this even more special is the fact that this is all genuine and not false at all. They all went out of their way to ensure that every request was met AND with a warm smile. They are attentive without being obtrusive.
Oscar is an amazing guide. He managed to show us wonderful game; 4 cheetah, 2 gorgeous male lions, beautiful civets, African Wild Cat, lovely owls, rhinos and elephant as well as buffalo. I could wax lyrical about the experience for hours. Oscar was entertaining and full of fascinating facts and stories that kept us spellbound for all 4 game drives that we did. He is definitely an asset to Imbali. He also arranged a visit to Hamiltons, where Given took me on a tour of the lodge. Hamiltons is also an option when we return.
We arranged for a massage on our deck; which again was out of this world. The cuisine was top notch and definitely contributed to an increase in waist size. While having breakfast one monrning, the water hole opposite the lodge was visited by a big herd of elephant; again a magical experience.
The lodge is situated deep in the Kruger National Park but is well worth the drive. We will definitely visit again, and would recommend Imbali to anyone wishing to stay at a 5 Star lodge in the greater Kruger National Park.
