“Absolutely amazing”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

9 years ago my brother, dad and myself stayed here. The memories and experiences are still so vivid and talked about today. We traveled to South Africa back in December of 2005 and the Outpost was our second safari location - our first being at the Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps. It's hard to put into a sentence of how amazing this place is. I just want to list adjectives. The rooms were spectacular and the views were even better. Everyone there was so eager to make your stay the best it could be and even at 4:30 in the morning, they were just as spunky as the night before. From "Eddie Murphy" reading our dinner menus, fishing the river, loosing all gears except 1st (it was a doozy going though the check points), to the 5+ star accommodations... the Outpost is absolutely amazing place.

Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback. It sounds like you had a fantastic experience which only Africa can offer.

I realise Canada is a long way away however we sincerely hope we return soon.

After 6 nights eco-trekking this was a really good change - as other people have said, the rooms or 'spaces' are amazing with breathtaking views. The best bit was sleeping with the mosquito netting around the bed and all the blinds open so you are outside but not outside. Waking to the sunrise was very special. It is very expensive - particularly if you don't go on all the included game drives etc. But for a few nights probably worth it.

I seek to place emphasis on the word: SPECTACULAR.
This is the most incredible place I have been to on earth so far.
It's beautiful. From the amazingly friendly staff to the knowledgeable and kind game drive guides.
The Outpost did not disappoint our wildest imaginations.

The rooms, are more like vistas over the escarpment. Your abode becomes a giant balcony overlooking the plains of the Kruger Park at the flick of switch(operating the electronic blinds)
As the blinds raise, your view is expanded to the horizon and if its at night, it feels like the edge of the universe as you lay in bed under the canopy of the milky way.
It felt like we were jettisoned into a time gone by, yet remained in absolute 5 star luxury whether it be at the bar, in the room or on the game drive.

If you're looking to experience the sounds and sights of the wild from the comfort of your own lodge, encounters with elephants or leopard and other animals, Romance(a couple even got engaged at Lanner Gorge when we were there), great food and service, informative game drives and visit a place that is like no other place on earth, then stay at The Outpost.

I cannot begin to describe the experience I have just had at the Outpost!!!!! Incredible, amazing, mind blowing, serenity, spoils, spectacular just don't come close to describing it. It is places like this that allow for us to experience a little bit of heaven. To all who work there thank you for making our engagement a memory I will never forget, specifically Cara. The rooms were incredible, the smiles on everyone's faces refreshing, the game drives spectacular and the food amazing. I cannot WAIT to come back to stay there for many years to come!!!! What a special special place.

We had an excellent stay at The Outpost. The architectural design of the entire facility, the finishing of the cabins, the scenery, the staff, the food, everything was excellent. Our guide was Alweet who was most attentive and knowledgable for the 4 of us in our group (we had request if Alweet could be our guide as he had guided us in this area before while working at one of the other lodges in the area). Would recommend this establishment for sure to anyone wanting to visit northern Kruger National Park.

The atmosphere that the staff manage to create at the lodge was one that was friendly, calm, caring and attentive.

We focused on birding as part of our "entertainment" and were not disappopinted with a number of new "lifers" that are specifically present in that area, including the Three banded Courser, Black-throated wattle eye, and others.

If you are looking for mammals this is probably not the best part of Kruger to visit; but the facility and staff make up for that for sure.

And lastly, everything was very clean and neat. The beds and pillows were very comfortable.

Room Tip: Room 5 and 6 are a little bit further set-back and do not have as nice a view, although still wonder...

Dear AvH123

Thank you for the incredible feedback.

As you have no doubt seen, Alweet is a common thread throughout the feedback we receive on Tripadvisor. He really is an absolute gem. We are really blessed with our staff compliment as we know how important they are to the overall guest experience.

As you mention, the birding is very special and I am delighted to hear that you managed to find some lifers. I am still looking for the Pel's Fishing Owl and Racket Tailed Roller.

We hope to see you back at The Outpost again soon.

Kind regards

My wife and I chose the Outpost as the getaway venue for our 5 year wedding anniversary, a venue to which my wife had been previously, but under different management at the time. Our expectations were therefore appreciably high and at no point were we disappointed in our choice. The entire team proved to be skilled in great service and the lodge and facilities were up to the highest standards. Skilled rangers also make or break even a great establishment and in this regard we were also highly impressed and our expectations exceeded! Fine wine and cuisine, only the best views of one of the still unspoilt areas in all of South Africa and all that already mentioned made for an incredible 5 day stay. Hope to be back soon! Note: outside of the lodge's control - great game viewing opportunities and very low malaria risk.

Room Tip: The lodge has 12 rooms or "spaces". Choose "space" numbers between 7 and 12 for...

Had the fortune of spending 2 nights at the outpost. If you are after the big 5, this is not the place, however if wanting a get away bush adventure with amazing scenery this is the spot!!!... The rooms are amazing- blinds/shutters that roll up into the roof to give you a 270 degree of the Luvuvhu river valley below. A visit to Lanner Gorge is a must (to see the Verreaux's Eagles) and the fever tree forest on the Northern banks of the Luvuvhu river is amazing. (our group managed to find a leopard stalking a herd of impala on the way there). There are 12 rooms, all with amazing views, but the rooms with higher numbers are higher up the hill and have increasingly more view of the river. There is a nespresso coffee machine in the room - so we skipped one morning game drive to watch the sun rise from our bed... Had golden-tail woodpeckers, green pigeons and a host of other birds visiting the trees around our chalet, while watching waterbuck, zebras, impala, nylala walking under the boababs in the valley below, with the dassies also trying to catch the early morning rays- all while sipping our coffee in bed without having to move. Great experience.

Room Tip: Ask for the highest number ie room 8,9,10 0r 11- 12 is the honeymoon suite. Rooms 1 and 2 dont have...
