We opted for a 4 day/3 night luxury tent safari as the reviews suggested anything shorter wouldn't allow for great viewing and we were very pleased we made this decision. We got to see 4 of the Big 5 but it wasn't without trying to see the 5th. Our tour guide Mark was fantastic and certainly provided us with a wealth of amusement during the safari and his knowledge was extraordinary. Travelling along in the open jeep was a treat as the animals seemed to be so close but in the early morning and late evening we certainly needed the blankets provided. The luxury tent wasn't really my idea of luxury but it was certainly well equipped for a tent and the heating made the cold winter nights and mornings bearable. The food provided at the camp was great and we were very grateful for the large choice of vegetarian food available. The experience was definitely memorable and one of the highlights of our travels. The long drive (5hrs) to and from Johannesburg was the only negative part of the journey, in particular the trip back which was a local shuttle service in a very tight van with one 9 min stop. If you can afford it go by airplane rather than the drive. However, Verity and Dean were there waiting for us when we arrived from the shuttle and quickly whisked us of to our hotel and this helped us to forget the cramped shuttle. Life is too short not to experience this Safari.
