This camp in the central area of Kruger National Park is a hidden gem. The camp chalets overlook the river with large areas of lawn and shady trees. Happy hippos inhabit the river and can be seen at any time of the day. There is a small hide from which you can view the hippo at closer range and any visiting elephants and good variety of birdlife. This camp is quiet and peaceful and is ideal if you need a couple of days of calm rejuvenation or quiet reflection. The staff are wonderfully helpful and friendly. There is no shop or restaurant but there is a lovely small pool area. The guided walks from this camp are recommended. Game is perhaps a little more sparse but elephant, nyala, hyena, impala, kudu and giraffe are common.

- Shimuwini is a Shangaan word for "Place of the Baobab Tree". Shimuwini Bushveld Camp is the most modern of the bushveld camps, being completely rebuilt after the floods in 2 000. ... more less
